Surviving Adversity -
Creating a Survival Mindset

Whether the challenge is a weather event, earthquake, volcano, or a social, political, or anarchal conflagration, we need a Survival Mind.

We need to develop a
"Never Quit" mentality.

Even when faced with the unthinkable with the correct mindset, you will survive. Survival is the beginning, not the end. You survive so that you can work to thrive in adversity. A solid plan is required in order to thrive in the middle of a disaster.

Survival is not a spectator sport.

***** for those too far to make it to the meeting in-person, the meeting will be simucast via zoom.

Please remember, the opportunity for remote participation is not meant to supersede actual in-person, face to face, sharing with other like-minded people. The personal interactions that are shared AT three meetings is invaluable. Therefore, zoom access will be limited to those for reasons obvious cannot attend in-person.

Current events of the day reminded me that i should repost this here.

I wanted to post a link to my radio show, 2016-05-17, I interview NBC (Nuclear Biological Radiological) ... CBRNE specialist for the USA Army. (CBRNE = Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive)

I interviewed David on my show, I always did it live, I do not like canned, scripted, presentations. I wanted my listeners to hear it unedited and from the horse's mouth. Being live radio, there is always something that will challenge the host's ability to make the presentation smooth. In this case, David was 7 minutes late calling in. I try not to say uh and you know. So, skip to minute 5 to hear my introduction of him.

For once and for all, masks are for sick people.

Watch the anointed God of the media Dr Anthony Fauci tell you what I have been saying, masks are a placebo for the "worried well" who overwhelm the healthcare providers and hospital emergency rooms making it difficult for those who really need help to receive in a timely manner.

Please eat healthy, practice good hygiene, stay calm, and for God's sake don't touch your face while you are out.

My data suggests that you want to avoid becoming sick from this particular virus because it leaves remnents not herd immunity.

The Great ShakeOut! Earthquake Exercise & Winter Survival Preps

Segment 1
We will discuss the national joint exercise designed to prepare the USA for a major earthquake incident. The exercise, scheduled to begin at 1017 hrs on October 17, 2019, is called The Great Shake Up.

We'll review a simple overview of seismic and plate tectonics and how it impacts or 2 survival quotient.

Segment 2
Creating a plan to help you identify goals and define needs. We will explore applying that data to create a plan to help you endure any hardships.

Segment 3
We will access any weaknesses in our physical condition in order to develop mitigation, wellness actions, and programs to fill the gap and motivate you to positively better your health and survival quotient.

Segment 4
We will review the data, our goals, and plans in order to augment our Readiness and through the creation of kits stocked with gear and supplies to assure our success.

Segment 5
We will bring all of the ideas from the first 4 segments together to cement a layered plan for readiness, health, mobility, communications, community for yourself.

Finally, a hands on and interactive presentation kit ideas and open discussion of the topics.

We have returned to a more formal training approach. That will include PowerPoint Presentations: Cut into 10 minute segments on specific topics.

While Will likes the fully interactive structure it has become clear from feedback that members lose track or are left with questions.

As usual we will have a lively discussion after. Our time constraints require that we are completely out of the building by 21:00 hrs.

Please make notes of questions and we will cover them at the end.

The formal presentation will be approximately 60 minutes long.

Ahead of the curve...

Camden County OEM / CERT in conjunction with Berlin (and a decent area) Fire, rescue, and Police ran a complex missing persons search and rescue exercise. The exercise, planned months ago, has increased relevance in light of recent local cases.

Practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. Every effort to review skills, practice their application, and tweak our knowledge and abilities.

The exercise went exceptionally well, proud to be part of a serious team.

So, as Rahm Emanuel said, "You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

Donna Shala, and other Florida legislators, in attempts to vilify FEMA and the President, have pushed the plan to send Miami's USAR team to the Bahamas. Political gamesmanship has no place in crisis management or search and rescue.

The claim is the the administration is moving to slowly demonstrates why such things should be left to trained professionals.

Things are so different today when it comes to SAR ( search and rescue) deployment. The entire problem during Katrina was a result of diverse entities acting on their own without centralized command and logistical support. Such misadventures are disastrous... Katrina was a total cluster.... Great people, trying to help, with no continuity or defined support structure.

The US has deployed highly skilled teams to the Bahamas ... Teams from US Coast Guard and International SAR teams from three USA are only the ground damming lives.

Situations like Miami's rogue "unofficial" deployment can get good team members injured, sick,our worse. It is the exact reason that ICS was created. ICS (Incident Command System).

ICS's incident command structure assures efficient, safe, deployments for our valuable USAR (Urban Search and Rescue teams...

The Miami team is on hold, like other area teams, only case Dorian creates the need for them in NC, USA. ICS dictates teams far from the effected areas be used for such deployments leaving critical local resources available near by for rapid response.

The City of Miami and the Bahamian government are working out an agreement to send Miami's urban search and rescue team rather than wait for federal

Hurricane Dorian has demonstrated how far SAR (Search and Rescue) has come since Katrina. The implementation of ICS (FEMA's Incident Command System) truly changed the professional effectiveness of SAR responses. Crowd sourcing is a phenomenal addition to the highly honed data and Incident Action Plans and Operations. Crowd sourcing gathers images, video, and on-scene feedback and status reports via social media and other managed access points. The Crowd Source Rescue site and others convert that raw information provided into actionable intelligence.

Leveraging technology and the public adds unbelievable amounts of helpful data to the mix.

We've helped rescue over 50,000 by connecting neighbors with neighbors during a disaster.

Spent the day with OEM CERT doing door to door flood damage assessments...

Amazing the extent of damage... Whole streets had vehicles in 4 feet of water... Oil tanks and water heaters flipping over and floating breaking off gas lines .... In areas that you would never expect flooding.

Sadly none of the people have flood insurance... Their insurance won't cover the losses.. Devastating.... If you are within 1000 ft of water (use Google earth to make sure) get coverage...
