Last Wednesday was not just another day at work.
Veterans course, great crew.
Blue dot was our position, anchored, getting a short-lived break from rain.
26.5 hours of mostly east wind Force 5 Fresh Breeze to Force 7 Near Gale, waves squalls from southeast then southwest along an occluded warm front. When we could see an end to the squalls, more would form over the Gulf Stream.
Thursday night that front spun off a new tight low that backed our wind to the north and dumped 12 inches of rain on Miami.
The National Huriucane Center, based in Miami, posted that one as having

For our place, this is a particularly yellow and large banana slug, Ariolimax columbianus. Most of the ones we see are more olive drab and frequently spotted.
The welcome overcast, rain, and cooler temperatures have brought these critters out in the daylight. But what is their deal?
My wife cuts up the European slugs, Arion ater, which attack her garden plants. The banana slugs rarely do. Starting with Wikipedia, I followed a couple references and found these two articles. These were fascinating and enough, for now. Enjoy!

I got a workout today. Perhaps an hour on a paddleboard, perhaps a little more, with my friend and reknown fitness coach, Travis Boothe We did a little surfing small wind waves against the ebb current, very cool. We got into a rip, pushed my skills, and tested my fitness, or lack thereof. I got in a few swims. As promoted by Travis, and my other SUP enthusiast friends, it was an intimate maritime experience. Thunderstorm(s?)!
Never, in our decades of living here have we experienced any storm, like this, a moderate thunderstorm lasting more than 24 hours. As the weather map shows the cells just keep forming abd rolling along a line from Tacoma to beyond Vancouver, BC.
Odd.
We're very thankful for the rain!

To keep the house cool, we have been cooking outside. E acquired this vintage Coleman stove-top oven from her folks, added 1 inch fire bricks to the bottom, and has continued to produce yummy sourdough loaves! Thank you!
