What an amazing day! Meridian staff came together this morning as one team to kick off the new school year.

Our incredible cheerleaders and band got the celebration started by leading staff in the fight song. We then heard from Dori Lukes and Lori Blankenship, who shared their Meridian journey, welcomed new staff members, and introduced Director of Transportation Michele Apeles. Michele reflected on the many roles she has held during her time in Meridian and shared a powerful reminder: no matter the job, it all comes back to supporting students.

We also heard from our student school board representatives, who spoke about their experiences as Meridian students, the staff members who have made a lasting impact on their lives, and what Learning Thrives Here means to them.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Kurt Harvill closed out the presentation by reminding us of our mission. We are one team with one purpose: helping every Meridian student learn, grow and thrive!

And finally, a huge thank you to Laurel Church for hosting our staff for breakfast this morning!

Our custodial and maintenance staff have spent the summer caring for over 360,000 square feet of schools and facilities. From deep cleaning classrooms, moving furniture and waxing floors to conducting inspections, completing preventative maintenance and maintaining our grounds, their work touches every corner of our district. Their commitment to our schools help create spaces where learning can thrive. Please join us in thanking these amazing team members!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first-ever Back-to-School Fair at Irene Reither Elementary School last week! We are so grateful for our students, families, staff and community partners who help strengthen our schools and support student success. A special shoutout to our Family Services team, Alicia Roberts and Elvira Trautman, for their outstanding coordination and hard work in making this event possible.

Meridian High School Principal Shaun Doffing, Assistant Principal Rob Zabel and Interim Superintendent Dr. Kurt Harvill stopped by the Northwest Washington Fair yesterday to support Meridian FFA students and admire all the hard work they have put into caring for and showing their animals. From sheep and goats to pigs, and more, there was plenty to see! They also spotted some familiar faces too, including Mr. Feller, and students Cole from MMS and Abram from MP3. We are so proud of our students for representing Meridian with pride! (We will share a Meridian FFA results round-up soon!)

Please join us in welcoming Ashley Geist to the Meridian School Board serving as the director for district 4.

During the July 29 meeting, the school board appointed Ashley Geist as the new director for District 4. Geist fills the vacancy from Director Marty Gray’s resignation in March. She will serve the remainder of the term through December 2027. Biographical Information from Director Ashley Geist
