Who remembers playing in the kindergarten boat? 🚤 Our kinder community came together recently to tend, nurture, and beautify the play yard!

Together, they reinforced and reinstalled the boat, added two hugelkultur planters to help protect and nourish our beloved big pine tree, pruned and planted, harvested oregano, placed rock, and cared for all the little details that make our outdoor spaces so special.

So many families came out and generously offered their time, energy, and will to our school. The children loved working alongside one another and helping care for our school grounds. At the end of the day, they marveled at just how much they had accomplished!

We are deeply grateful for each helping hand 🪏🌳🌱

What begins as a rough branch or freshly split log gradually becomes something beautiful, useful, and unique to its artisan. Whether carving a wooden cup or figurine, shaping a stool, crafting a broom, or engineering a functional automaton, our students discover that meaningful work takes time, patience, and perseverance.

Beginning in fourth grade, students enter our woodworking studio to work with locally harvested wood and traditional hand tools. As they learn about native tree species, wood grain, and the character of the wood itself, they are invited into a relationship with the natural world that is both practical and artistic, while building an understanding of the journey from raw material to finished product. Each project builds upon the last, developing dexterity, confidence, and a deep respect for the work of human hands.

At Whatcom Hills Waldorf School, our Practical Arts program empowers students to take ownership of their work and pride in what they create 🪵🪚🤎🧹🌳

Swipe to see some of the beautiful woodworking projects our students created this year in Ms. Lynam's class, and inquire now for Fall enrollment! (Come tour our woodshop!)

Join fellow WHWS families for a relaxed summer evening at Kulshan Trackside!

Thursday, July 23rd | 5-8pm

Grab an ice cream cone from , a WHWS alumni-owned business, choose something delicious from one of the food trucks (or bring a picnic from home), and play around on the pump track! Look for our reserved tables in the beer garden—all ages are welcome.

It’s a wonderful chance to reconnect with friends, meet new families, and enjoy some summer community. If you have a child starting in the fall we would love to meet you!

We will also have a simple craft or two.

Hope to see you there!

In place of traditional textbooks, Waldorf students create their own personalized chronicles of learning from each block, weaving together artistic interpretation and depth of understanding.

Writing by hand and carefully illustrating each page, students don’t just memorize information—they build a deep understanding of the material. Ask a Waldorf student about something they’ve studied, and you’ll hear more than just a recitation of facts; they carry a rich narrative of experiences, insights, and genuine connection to their learning.
