Much love and appreciation to you amazing humans for helping care for our 🌈 rainbow bridge. Between all 20 of us, we contributed 75 hours today! ✊ The bridge has been completely cleaned, and most of the touch up paint has been done. With the lion's share done, there is still a small bit left to do. So if anyone would like to continue Saturday, we would love to have your help.

The plan: meet today at 11:30 (Saturday (7/27)) and bring a pint/quart container and paintbrush for the final touches. It would be great to get a group photo too! Oh, and if you took a paintbrush home to clean it, we'd love to have it back for next time.

Friday, May 20 is Bike and Walk to School Day!
Visit the Birchwood Celebration Station by the bike rack between 7:15-8:00 a.m. on Friday.
Kids who bike and walk can get a snack and prize and ring our bells. We'll count to see how many Bulldogs ride or walk to school that day!
Do you need help getting your kid's bike ready?
A few volunteers will be available by the bike rack after school on Monday and Wednesday 2:30-3:30. They can help pump tires, l**e chains, adjust seats, and check helmet fit. They can also help you plan a safe route and think through your timing to make it to school on time.

Tonight you can come pick up this week's meal box at Birchwood Elementary from 4:00 - 5:30pm. No need to even get out of your car. We provide safe and masked transfer of meals, snacks, milk, and veggies right in to your vehicle!

This program helps support farmers and our greater community. The more people that participate the better. We need you!

Late breaking news from the USDA! Free meals continue for all students

As of Aug. 31, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended the free meals program into the 2020-21 school year. This means all children ages 0 to 18, plus our Community Transitions students, will continue to receive free meal boxes. You will no longer need to provide a name or PIN at pickup. This is late-breaking, great news and differs from the informational meal flyer you will receive shortly in the family handbook mailing.

We encourage all families to pick up a free box of 14 meals and support our food services program and the Good Food Project in Bellingham Public Schools, as well as our local community. In every week’s box, we will provide a scratch-made entrée out of our Central Kitchen with ingredients sources from local farms when available. Now is a great time to bring the school cafeteria into your home with these meals. By picking up a box, you will keep farmers in business, district staff employed and families fed.

Every Wednesday starting Sept. 9, boxes will be distributed from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Birchwood and 13 other schools.

Hello families!
Today from 3:30 to 5 PM all students will have the opportunity to pick up their supply bags for this upcoming school year which begins on September 8.

2nd to 5th grade students will be picking up their devices to access their learning.

Kindergarten and first grade will receive supply bags today and will get their new devices the last week of September or the first week of October.

We are excited to see your beautiful faces today. The line will form along Pinewood Ave.

Monday meal boxes will be given out through the month of August at the usual summer times and locations. Pick up boxes from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 17, 24 and 31. View the designated locations at bellinghamschools.org/school-menus.

Starting Sept. 9, we will begin a new distribution model on Wednesdays. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the start of the 2020-21 school year. In the meantime, be sure to apply for the free and reduced price meal program at bellinghamschools.org/food-services. Families must re-apply every school year.

Any student in grades K-12 in Washington state who was eligible for free or reduced-price school meals last year is eligible to receive Pandemic EBT, a benefit of up to $399 per student.

Families must complete a simple application through the Washington State Dept. of Social and Health Services (DSHS) by August 31, 2020. Pandemic EBT is available regardless of citizenship or immigration status and is not considered a public charge.

Apply online at washingtonconnection.org for P-EBT before 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31. The website is available in English and Spanish.
