We offer year-round entirely outdoor wilderness programs for children in the greater Bellingham, WA area.

We envision a world where humans cohabitate harmoniously with nature and each other; where there is a deep respect, appreciation of, and connection to the natural world; and where individuals fully embody the unique gifts and talents that they bring to the world.

RIP John Gallagher. Our hearts are so heavy as we hear the news of his passing.

John taught us how to make our first salve with Cottonwood buds at his home in Carnation back in 2007, when we were students at WAS.

John urged us to sit with Oregon Grape and tune into the plant with all of our senses in order to deepen our connection and understanding of the role it plays in the ecosystem, and the healing gifts it offers.

John had such a deep love, passion, and vision for connecting folks with plants, and his offerings and teaching tools (Wildcraft, Herb Fairies, and other LearningHerbs resources) have been a part of our curriculum for many years. His work (and his wife Kimberley’s) is such a blessing to those who care deeply about connecting with plants.

Rest in peace, Badger. You changed our lives and the lives of so many. You planted so many potent seeds during your relatively short time on this earth. And for that, we are eternally grateful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌿

We are so grateful that both Fire Keepers and Village are full with waitlists for this upcoming school year! We do still have room for a few new Fox Walkers to join us in September! If you enroll before Sept 3rd and use the code “WONDERFUL” you can take $200 of your child’s tuition!   Please reach out to us if you have any questions. Trying to limit screen time this summer but will get back to you as soon as we can! Have a great day and go see what’s happening in your backyard! It is wild out there.

Found both these creatures guarding clutches of eggs under rocks this week — one in the intertidal zone at Wildcat Cove and one in Coyote Woods under a rock. So…. Who wore it better? 🙃 🦎 🐟 👗 💃 ✌️

We open up school year programs to new students this Friday, April 19th. Village has almost completely filled up returning students, so the main available options are Fire Keepers on Mondays and Fox Walkers on Tuesdays and Thursdays! We exist on word of mouth, so please don’t hesitate to spread the word. All details are up at featherandfrond.org

The last week of the school year has begun! Time does fly. We were happy to invite families out to today for a sweet little Forest Tea Party in our beloved Coyote Woods! The animals were out in force as we had encounters with 2 Great Horned Owls, many Deer Mice, two different young bucks with moss covered antlers and countless other creatures out there! These are magical days to explore our lovely neck of the woods. 🌲 ⛅️ 🦉 🐍 🐰 🌸 💚

The Village! This is what it’s all about. Having a wide age range all together can be tricky sometimes but really allows for everyone’s strengths to shine through. Here at the end of a long day, some of our shortest legs got tired so some of our longest legs and strongest arms offered to help. So simple and so sweet! Can you tell he is a big brother?

We have really missed the kids around here and so have the creatures - from this Beautiful Bald Eagle (who needed a few hours apparently after eating a big meal) to Bats to Coyotes to Ravens to Juncos — there were many visitors to the land looking for their forest school friends!!! We told them to come back tomorrow! Happy New Year!
