Sheteng-otel group finished strong with 63 walkers&runners at Bellingham Bay Marathon. Cooperative Extension’s Month of September Series on Su***de Awareness and Prevention month.***Our final event was Sept 20th, this is a delayed post, we paused to mourn together the loss of another beautiful beloved community member, family &friend. This heartbreak unfortunately is personally experienced across indigenous communities and hits close to home for all of us here. This epidemic is not just a topic to recognize in September, but a real heartbreak we experience in our families and other families in our community, everyday is awareness, everyday is a reminder to reach out to a friend or 988. Everyday is a reminder you are resilient. A reminder, to check on your family and friends. To gather. Do not isolate. To continue to encourage one another. We cannot always solve another person’s sorrow or make their healing journey go faster, but we can be a listening ear. Your life matters. We are stronger together. Sheteng-otel , we are “walking” together
We are proud of our Lummi Nation Community, our NWIC students, NWIC staff, NWIC athletics, Native Connections Team & Cooperative Ext Team. NWIC Student Executive Board, bringing awareness & educating others at NWIC student/Cooperative Ext booth. A meeting point for our Lummi Nation community teams and individuals to stop by and refresh and grab awareness materials/giveaways. Heysxwq’e , for the work and time invested into others. to Heather Jefferson your time in wellness for the students &community, Alexis Solomon, VP of Activities (NWIC S.E.B.) , Victoria Good Buffalo, Graciela Kapuni-Lopez, Crysta Jameson, Chesity Slinkey, Erin Jefferson , Selina Ramirez(Native Connections) , Vera Julius, Adam Lane -Athletics Dept. , NWIC Men’s basketball team, and many other hands and hearts that made this possible. You are appreciated and important.

NWIC’s Financial Wellness Retreat for Native Communities was a fun filled financial wellness success! We had a full house, all 50 seats registered and still squeezed in a few walk-in’s for a total of 60 in attendance. Our participants included, Lummi Nation community members, NWIC students, NWIC staff, Lummi Nation Men&Women Homes, Community Elders, and Sobriety Groups. USBank sponsored education, gas cards from Lummi Commercial Co., Raffle Prizes, each participant a winner, laptop and IPad giveaways, and lunch buffet. Great time working on our connection to wellness, financial literacy, and indigenous rooted wellness discussions, sharing, eating together, and fellowship.
