Newport High School opened its door in the fall of 1964. From the beginning, the Fine Arts were a central facet of the culture and life of Newport. In the "old building", as it is fondly referred to, the stage was simply a raised platform with curtains and sparse lighting in the corner of the cafeteria. You are officially invited to come see Newport Drama’s Production of Matilda opening on January 12th at 7pm in the NHS PAC. Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, popularized on Netflix, is more than just a coming of age story. It is a reflection on parenting, teaching and learning and doing what’s right even when it might be a bit “Naughty”. The show features a large ensemble cast of big kids and little kids some going to school with The Trunchbull for the first time! The songs are catchy and singable.
Featuring standout performances from sophomore Andrea Chen (Matilda) and newcomer to the NHS stage junior Sophia Xu (Miss Honey). Come witness the biggest hug between these two characters and experience the joy a truly supportive teacher can bring her students.
Returning to the Newport stage, senior Hayden Le (Trunchbull) proves that height is not the only way to intimidate those 1/10th your age. She steps up to the challenge with help from her assistant played by Leonardo Fox. Come witness the hair-brain antics of the Wormwoods played by seniors Maddie Ford and Trey Byther. A cast loaded with talent will not disappoint!
The show runs just over 2 hours with a 10 minute intermission.

Come watch the Rebels seize the amenity and then the consequences that follow! Our show opened to a packed house on the 13th and we look forward to seeing you this coming weekend! Tickets are only sold online and seats are reserved when you purchase. The earlier you buy the better!
