Recently, St. Mary's 2nd grade class used a fun sorting game to learn about animal classification. In their Science lesson, the students examined how scientists organize animals into groups based on their characteristics. Then they got to play an "Animals Sorting Game" in which they studied animal traits and used these traits to sort animal cards into mammals, birds, reptiles, and invertebrates. Our 2nd graders were then challenged to make decisions about animals that don’t fall neatly into any of those categories. What a great way to learn about the many amazing creatures God has created!

Last week, St. Mary's 5th graders designed and created movie posters based off of the "I Survived . . . " novel they read together in Reading & English. "I Survived . . ." is a series of books by Lauren Tarshis that teaches children about major disasters and historical events via the fictional accounts of young characters. Have you ever read the "I Survived . . ." series? If so, which story is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

St. Monica's story hits home for many of us at St. Mary's School.
