Great conversations, industry insights, and wonderful alumni connections!
Anderson and Thompson were proud to represent Coast Banking School at the Colorado Bankers Association and Arizona Bankers Association Annual Convention in beautiful Colorado Springs.
One of the highlights of the conference was seeing so many PCBS alumni and hearing about the impact they are making throughout the banking industry. We always enjoy reconnecting with our alumni community and celebrating their continued success.
Jessica Anderson, Vice President of Program Development at PCBS, participated in the panel discussion, "How Graduate Schools Are Shaping the Future of Banking." She joined an outstanding group of industry leaders, including:
• Paul Katz, President & CEO, Graduate School of Banking at Madison
• Michael Stevens, President & CEO, Graduate School of Banking at Colorado
The discussion focused on the important role graduate banking schools play in developing future leaders, strengthening our industry, and preparing bankers for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Thank you to the Colorado Bankers Association and Arizona Bankers Association for hosting such a great event. We look forward to continuing the conversation and seeing many of you again soon!

As continues to celebrating Teacher Appreciation Month, we’re honored to recognize the outstanding faculty who have helped shape the PCBS experience for decades.
This week, we’re spotlighting Steve Goodman, who is marking 20 years of teaching with PCBS. He teaches two electives, Practical Financial Planning and Asset Protection, along with being one of our 3rd-Year Leadership Speakers presenting on Ethics. Over his 20 years with PCBS, he has consistently been recognized as one of our top-rated instructors.
For two decades, Steve has brought deep industry insight, a commitment to student growth, and humor into the classroom, leaving a lasting impression on generations of banking professionals.
For this longtime Coast Banking School faculty member, the true draw is the environment created by the staff, faculty, and students alike — one that is professional, supportive, engaging, and collaborative.
“The students show up ready to learn, not just from me, but from each other, which makes the entire experience both engaging and rewarding.”
One of the biggest lessons learned through teaching at PCBS? The experience in the room matters just as much as the material itself. Students challenge assumptions, share practical insights, and create discussions that make the learning experience meaningful for everyone involved.
Some of the most memorable moments come from those conversations — whether it’s a lively classroom debate sparked by a real-time financial calculation or a meaningful discussion about leadership and resilience that leaves a lasting impact.
“After 20 years, PCBS has become more than just a teaching engagement — it’s something I genuinely look forward to each summer. The learning goes both ways.”
Thank you to our incredible faculty who continue to invest in the future of banking leadership and make the PCBS experience so impactful year after year.

Mahalo to the Bankers Association for an incredible Annual Conference & Directors Forum in Maui!
coast banking school enjoyed reconnecting with alumni, industry leaders, and friends from across the banking community during several days of insightful conversations, networking, and leadership development. From discussions on economic trends and regulatory updates to sessions on technology, governance, and the future of community banking, the conference delivered valuable perspectives for bankers at every level.
One of the highlights was hearing from Christopher Thompson ACC, CPC Thompson — executive coach, author, and PCBS instructor — during the closing general session, “The Weight You Cannot See: The Hidden Work of Leadership in a High-Pressure Industry.” His message on leadership, resilience, and the unseen challenges leaders carry resonated deeply with attendees.
Thank you to everyone who took time to connect with the PCBS community throughout the conference. We’re grateful for the relationships, conversations, and continued commitment to strengthening the banking industry together.

When reflecting on his journey with PCBS, he shared:
“Over the past 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of watching both the banking industry and PCBS evolve tremendously — from paper-based presentations with overhead projectors to today’s fully cloud-based environment.
What continues to inspire me most is the resilience and creativity of the students, along with the strong camaraderie among the BMSim team. Supporting the school’s mission and helping develop future banking leaders keeps me coming back year after year.”
Thank you, Bob, for the dedication and impact you’ve made on your student bankers over the past 25 years. Your contributions continue to shape our community in lasting ways.

Pacific Coast Banking School Faculty Spotlight: Smith
PCBS Tenure: 20 Years
PCBS Course: The Board, Shareholders and M&A: Legal and Practical Concerns
About Philip:
Philip Smith has dedicated two decades to shaping the PCBS experience, bringing deep expertise and real-world perspective to the classroom. His commitment to developing the next generation of banking leaders has left a lasting mark on countless students and peers alike.
Teaching at PCBS:
Through his course, Philip blends legal insight with practical application, creating a dynamic adult learning environment where students can engage, challenge ideas, and connect theory to real-world banking scenarios.
Impact on Students:
Over the years, Philip has influenced and inspired countless PCBS students through his dedication, expertise, and passion for education—helping prepare them to lead with confidence in an evolving industry.
Why They Teach:
“My favorite PCBS memory is a collection of the same experience for 20 years. To me, the arrival at PCBS and the beautiful University of Washington campus always signals the beginning of fall. Normally, coming off of a hectic summer travel schedule from coast to coast with clients in various types of climates, the arrival in the Pacific Northwest always brings a slight chill in the air and the campus setting and the eagerness of the students arriving on campus to begin or continue their PCBS progress is a reminder that all colleges are returning to campus. It is also a signal that fall is on the way, college football is beginning or right around the corner, and being with the future bank leaders always reenergizes me to finish the year strong. Teaching at PCBS and mingling with the other valued faculty, staff and students is truly a blessing and an honor.”
Thank you, Philip, for 20 years of impact, mentorship, and commitment to excellence.
Join us in celebrating Philip Smith and the difference he’s made in our banking community.

Students reflect on what makes leadership effective—analyzing real examples and assessing their own leadership style to identify opportunities for growth.
Managing Bank Financial Performance

These assignments are critical to developing thoughtful, strategic banking leaders.
