English Language Institute at Bellevue College

Pssst did you know this guy has been teaching at Bellevue College for more than 20 years? The official number is 25. Ivan Breen started at BC in 1999! He was chair of the department for 11 years and carried it through the height of Covid.

In case you don’t already know, Ivan is not just an English teacher. He’s also an outdoor adventurer, has done lots of mountaineering and climbing, but more recently, he has also been into adventure bike touring, a.k.a. bikepacking.

On top of that, he’s a bit of a culinary explorer and loves to talk food!

If you see him in the hallway, congratulate him on his milestone (25 years)!

In the ELI program, International students are in class for more than four hours a day. They often have the same teacher for multiple quarters.

After that much time together, you almost become like family. Yesterday, ELI students caught up with their former teacher Ivan Breen, sharing some memories and just chatting about life. ☺️

Spring quarter (Start a) Book Club is open to everyone!

Each week, we read short This I Believe essays and talk about a new theme together. It’s a great way to practice English, hear different perspectives, and connect with others.

This space is designed to support English language learners, but all students are welcome. You can participate as much or as little as you’d like. It’s okay to be late or to come without having done the reading. No pressure!
