David ran from Saul and tried to find refuge in a lonely cave and in strongholds of his own making, yet every place he built came crashing down and left him afraid and humiliated. We do the same thing when we trust money, control, or isolation to keep us safe, only to learn that the refuges we create can never save us. So God placed Jesus in the middle of our fear, and through his perfect life, death, and resurrection your sins are forgiven and you have lasting refuge in him alone.

Congratulations to Nate and Elijah on their confirmation! Over the past two years, they have spent time studying God's Word with Pastor and growing in their understanding of the Christian faith and the truths of Scripture. Confirmation marks the completion of their first two years of study and the beginning of a final year focused on applying God's Word to everyday life. We thank God for his blessings and pray that he continues to strengthen their faith in Christ.

Our mowing team is covered this year. Thank you! Now we’re hoping to round out our building cleaning team. It’s a flexible, rotating schedule, and takes about 2–2.5 hours when it’s your turn. Helping with this makes a BIG difference for our budget. If you’re interested, connect with Chealsey or Pastor. We won’t start the rotation until we have enough volunteers so one or two people won't end up doing it all themselves.

When the battles of life make us afraid, we often look to ourselves and quickly lose confidence, just like Saul and Israel before Goliath. But the battle for our salvation was never ours to win, because Jesus stepped in as our substitute, carried our sin to the cross, and rose in victory for us. Because his victory is ours by faith, we can face every earthly battle with confidence in the Lord, trusting his promise to be with us and bring us safely home.

This week was the Pacific Northwest District Convention of the WELS. Pastor Erich, who serves as the district's Evangelism Chairman, presented to delegates from congregations across the district. Join us for our Annual Ministry Meeting after worship this Sunday. As part of the meeting, Pastor Erich and Ken will share a brief report on what they learned at the convention, along with updates on the many ministries and opportunities God has given our congregation including an update on the building project!

You and I spend so much of life judging by what we see, but God does not choose to love us because of our appearance, accomplishments, or even because there is something good within us. When God looks at our hearts, he sees sinners who deserve judgment, yet in his grace he sent Jesus, the true King from Bethlehem, to take our sin upon himself and win our full forgiveness through his life, death, and resurrection.

It was how God kept working through every season of his life. His story points us to Jesus, the true King who fulfills every promise, and reminds us that God is doing the same shaping work in us today.
