Children find beauty in the world, including in art, from looking for inspiration, to the process of creation, to thinking about how they felt about their project, to planning their next creation. The wonder of art in the Montessori classroom is rich in their minds and brings joy to their day! It also prepares their fingers and hands for writing!

“The hand too, therefore, needs its own preparation. What is needed before one actually writes is to learn writing by means of a series of interesting exercises which form a kind of gymnastics similar to those used to give agility to the muscles of the body. ”

Students enjoy the Sensorial area of the classroom! Through Sensorial work in the Montessori classroom, students are able focus on the refinement of all of their senses. These studies include acquiring clear, conscious information and to then be able to make classifications in their environment. Through these studies, they begin to understand their environment. It is beautiful to observe.

At Chestnut Montessori School, we offer an Early Childhood Program for ages 2 1/2 through 6, where curriculum is designed and implemented to support the needs and abilities of the whole child in their physical, social, and intellectual development. The curriculum is introduced individually as a child demonstrates readiness. We also incorporate a STEAM curriculum that aligns beautifully with the classical Montessori approach.
