Did you know that this week is National Small Business Week? At least half of the people and organizations that I work with are in the entrepreneur space or small business space. That's because that they recognize that reinvention isn't just a strategy to contemplate, it's a strategy to operate. Day in and day out.
And small businesses aren't just storefronts and retail. They are also:
Contractors
Architects
Designers
Technologists
Consultants
Healthcare advocates
Social service agencies
Gig workers
Solo entrepreneurs
So, as you decide where to shop, where to work, who to hire, and what products and services you need, consider the small business sector. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Elevating the work of artist Kristi O'Meara whose textile patterns reminds us that creativity involves the ability to see patterns that combine both human and machine.

Machine learning can only go so far.
Human learning is limited by the immense amount to be learned.
Combining both for a creative output requires insight, intention, and perspective.

What patterns are you making?
What patterns are you willing to disrupt?
What patterns give new perspective?

A solar eclipse is a reminder that we all don't have the same experience.
🌞 Today, some will see all sunshine and no shadow.
πŸŒ‘ Others will see the sun totally eclipsed by the moon and will be in awe that it is a rare phenomenon that is fleeting.
πŸŒ’ And others will see part sun and part shadow, and depending where they are.
☁ Finally, others will have cloud cover and either think what's the big deal or be bitterly disappointed that they missed their moment.
The question becomes - how do we hold all experiences as true, valid and worth a conversation?

A message from our founder because we think resiliency is a creative act:
Three years ago, I fell on a hike and suffered an acute fracture of my right humerus (that's the arm bone and there was nothing funny about it) at the shoulder. It was during the COVID shutdown and I am ever grateful to the two hiking groups that helped me and my dog down the mountain, UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Dr. Benjamin Ma for putting me back together, Dr. Jonathan Hodax at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle for managing my follow-up care and suggesting a non-surgical intervention when the bone was not healing as planned, and the friends and family that supported my rather long road to recovery.

My goal was to eventually return to turning cartwheels, at least once a year. It's a tradition that has been with me and select members of my family. For us, it celebrates bravery, an ageless mindset, joy, and change of perspective.

Today, I was brave and turned 3 cartwheels. One for every year I missed.

What's your metaphor and how does it guide you? Love to hear in the comments.

With the Spring Equinox comes the Worm Moon. It represents the time of year when the worms emerge from the softening earth and the beetle larvae eat through the tree bark. In some cultures it is also known as the Sugar Moon, Goose Moon, Wind Strong Moon, or the Sore Eyes Moon.
Spring is my reminder to:
πŸŒ• Soften to grow
πŸŒ• Emerge out of darkness (I think this is where the sore eyes moon gets its name)
πŸŒ• Be like the beetle larvae and find what will fuel your transformation
What are you growing? What does spring signal for you? What fuels change or transformation in your life?

History is not made in large gestures but in how we show up every day and through the choices we make. Lily Gladstone went to high school in my community. Over one hundred former classmates and teachers gathered in the Mountlake Terrace High School Theater to watch the Oscars together. When she graduated in 2004, she was voted "Most Likely to Win an Oscar" by her classmates. I have no doubt that she will, but more importantly, she has already won by the courage and commitment on display through her work, her choices, and her advocacy.
❓ How do your choices reflect your truth?
❓ How are you showing up?
❓ Where are you showing up and for who?
❓ Are you a Mollie (Gladstone's role in Killers of the Flower Moon) or a William (De Niro's role) or playing the odds like Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio?

Starting this week with a focus on cognitive agility. Between stimulus and response, there is a space. What and how you use that space makes the difference between being a slave to your emotions and being emotionally intelligent. Here are some ideas of how to harness that space:
- Ask questions
- Extend the longevity of the space
- Remind yourself that making space gives you options
- Gather evidence
- Breathe
Brought to you by all of us that have learned not to let Mondays gain the upper hand. Thanks to Francisca Borzea for the brilliant animation.

Whether Valentine's Day is your thing or not, as our niche is growth and , we think it is a great time to ask yourself:
🌹 What are you growing?
❀️ What/Who do you love?
πŸ’¦ How will it flourish?
