Goldsmiths’ School of Global Change offers an unusually focused, real‑world approach to the social sciences. Instead of a broad “liberal arts” start, students dive straight into their chosen field—Anthropology, Politics, History, International Relations, Law, or Sociology—from day one. Small classes and seminar-style teaching mean you’re a name, not a number, and discussion replaces most large lectures.
What really stands out is how embedded the school is in London. Law students visit the Old Bailey and work in clinics on immigration, human rights, and creative industries. Sociology and anthropology students use southeast London as a living laboratory, doing “live methods” research in the city and connecting theory to everyday life.
With only about eight contact hours a week at undergraduate level, the model demands independence—but it also gives space for deep reading, office hours, guest talks, and work placements in Parliament, NGOs, local government, and more.

But my mom does that for me!
Much like a couple that spends all of their time planning a wedding and none (or at least not enough) time planning for the marriage, many high school students and their parents/guardians
Students this post is really for you. Over the last year have you put all of your energy planning for the college applications and forgotten to prepare to be on your own on campus. While there is a security net on campus of RA’s and paid housing/food you will still be largely independent for the first time in your life. Ask yourself who is taking care of all of the basics and do I even know how to do these things for myself? If the answer is no or I’m not sure then you have some work to do before you pack your bags.
To help ease the adjustment here is a list of 10 MUST know how to do items for students before they leave home.

I love professional development! And because I love it, I had an amazing 3 days at the Conference in Baltimore. Learning about admissions trends, ethical uses of AI, and the latest in financial aid are just a few of the topics we covered. It was awesome spending time with and learning from my colleagues. It's also a pleasure to connect in person with this amazing group of committed IEC's.
I'm excited to get back to my desk, working with students and applying this new information to benefit them and their families.
It was great to see Belinda Wilkerson, Amy Jasper, Michelle Evard, Sydney Montgomery, Brandon Mack, Sylvia Jackman, Antoinette Bautistte, Robin Hass, Susana Maclean, Nagla Orlando, Tami Benov, Brynenn Ford, Jennifer Morh, Tina Pratt, Anne Homdhal, Laird Dudley, and many more!

King’s College London offers an appealing path for North American students who want a focused, internationally recognized degree in the heart of London. Undergraduate programs are typically three years, the academic intensity is high and entry is competitive. Admissions are “test‑flexible” for U.S. applicants: students can qualify with combinations of APs, SAT, and ACT, and some programs require five AP scores of 5, often in specific subjects like Calculus BC or Physics C.
The life sciences and biomedical programs are especially strong. Seven related degrees share a common first year, allowing students to switch easily once they discover whether biochemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology or another specialty fits best. Close partnerships with major NHS hospitals give students access to cutting‑edge research and clinical environments. For families comparing options, King’s delivers a shorter, specialized degree, excellent placements, and all the cultural advantages of studying in central London.

The most daunting thing was probably just picking the right set of schools for me, understanding more about each school and what would ultimately be the best selection for me personally. Working with April definitely helped reduce stress in the process as she cleared a path that allowed me to focus on one thing at a time.

UNC Charlotte stands out as North Carolina’s urban research university, offering students the best of a modern campus and a close-knit academic experience. Davidson College offers a powerful blend of academic rigor, close community, and real-world opportunity. With about 2,000 undergraduates and an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, classes are small enough for professors to know students as people—mentors who show up at games, performances, and even help find internships.
As a liberal arts college, Davidson structures academics around three “buckets”: core “Ways of Knowing” requirements, major courses, and electives often used for double majors or pre-professional paths. Over half of students double major, discovering new passions in everything from literary studies to neuroscience.
Learning extends far beyond campus. Students pursue funded research, entrepreneurship through The Hub, and global experiences via 10 Davidson-led and 100+ partner study abroad programs. The Dean Rusk Office and specialized fellowships support projects around the world.
Crucially, Davidson meets 100% of demonstrated financial need with no loans, making this transformative education accessible to talented students from all backgrounds.

Congratulations Class of 2026!
I’m taking a moment to congratulate the students in my class of 2026 on their many and varied college acceptances. By now, students in the class of 2026 have either submitted their enrollment deposits or will submit a deposit today. It is an exciting day!
Every year, my goal is to help students find their best-fit college: socially, academically, and financially. I am so proud of this group who has garnered acceptances to over 140 unique colleges and earned nearly $2 million in merit dollars to help fund their educations. With Early Decision acceptances at Columbia, Duke, Santa Clara and Tulane alongside early action and regular decision acceptances to ASU Barrett Honors, Penn State Schreyer's Honors, UMD, UVA, UW Madison, UW Seattle, Fordham, Gonzaga, Howard, Hampton, Spelman, UCLA and more, I am thrilled to know that each of my students had several wonderful options to choose from.
So, if you see a graduating senior make sure to celebrate with them as they move forward in their life’s journey.

Furman University offers a distinctive blend of close-knit community, rigorous academics, and intentional career preparation. With about 2,500–2,600 students, Furman is small enough for professors to know your name—average class size is just 14—but large enough to support Division I athletics, 180+ student organizations, and a vibrant campus life.
A hallmark of the Furman experience is the Furman Advantage, anchored by the two-year Pathways program. From day one, students work in small cohorts with dedicated advisors on everything from navigating college to building resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and professional networks. Most students take part in high-impact experiences like research, internships, or study away, often supported by stipends so cost isn’t a barrier.
Located in Greenville, South Carolina—a growing foodie and arts city—Furman pairs a four-year residential campus with easy access to downtown opportunities. It’s a place designed to launch students confidently into jobs or grad school.
