This page is for all the amazing English language learners and teachers involved in the ELAP program at Southwestern Illinois College. SWIC offers FREE ESL classes for all levels of English language ability from beginning to advanced. We will use this page to post announcements, reminders, English tips and lessons, photos, and much more. To enroll in our ESL classes, a student must be a resident of the state of Illinois, at least 16 years old, not enrolled in high school, and a person who speaks a first language other than English. Our mission is to help eligible English language learners achieve competence in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the English language leading to the attainment of high school equivalency credential, transition to post-secondary education and training, or employment while becoming active members of society in the United States.

Starting in August 2026, we will offer a new class, "Careers in Healthcare Sciences", for High Intermediate and Advanced English learners.

Are you interested in improving your English while learning medical terminology and healthcare-related content? This class is designed to help you build language skills for healthcare careers and educational pathways.
