In need of a little help:

St.John's Catholic Church has a Giving Tree each year to help families is need. Every year there are Marion-Walker students that benefit from this. This year is no exception and we had many students placed on the giving tree again in hopes of receiving a few Christmas gifts. However, I had a few late entries and was unable to add these students to the tree. We currently have 7 students that are in need and weren't able to be on the tree.

If you are willing to sponsor a child please private message me or reach out via email at [email protected]. You may either sponsor by donating money and I will shop OR I can give you the student "wish list" with clothing sizes, what they need, and what they are interested in. (The only thing I can't disclose is who the child is or their family name)

🕊This week Marion-Walker Elementary is going to be celebrating The Great Kindness Challenge! To celebrate, each day will have a theme for spirit days, daily announcements to encourage kindness, and a challenge for the week to see how many kind acts each student can complete ! There's also a new bulletin board for photo opportunities to be the "I" in KIND🤗

Congratulations to our Bully Prevention poster contest winners!!! October was Bully Prevention month and students were able to enter a poster contest to promote kindness & standing up against bullying. 🧡

The winning posters were printed using our school poster printer and hung around the building.

Everyone who submitted a poster did a great job, and choosing the winners was not easy! Shout out to Officer Lyons for helping and being one of the judges! 👮‍♂️

Small Group Counseling Opportunity:

Friendship Group Program offered through Penn State for students in Kindergarten - 5th grade. The program is free of charge and begins the first week of October.

What is the Friendship Group program at Penn State?
"Friendship Groups help elementary age children develop the basic social skills necessary for making and keeping friends. Small groups of 4-6 children of similar age meet together once a week to practice social skills while doing fun games, crafts and activities. Three or four adult coaches facilitate each group, using teaching methods developed by Dr. Karen Bierman. All coaches are Penn State students interested in careers in psychology and education. They are trained and supervised by Jennifer Murray Connell, the Friendship Group program director."

Its okay for our students / kids to be disappointed or feel like everything is going wrong - we all have those moments & in those moments it can be difficult to ALWAYS "Stay positive".

Here are a few suggestions below with "Say this instead of that.." to help get to the otherside of negative experiences and feelings a child may be having.

Validate feelings --> problem solve --> & find positives along the way

What a great week! Loved seeing and hearing how classes were participating in our activities throughout the week! Teachers had fun with it too & sometimes simply getting to wear comfy clothes to work is a treat all on its own!

Marion-Walker Elementary students and staff are the best! Can't wait to do it again next year 🤗
