You can have an opinion.
Survivors have lived experience of s*x trafficking, a form of r**e.

When it comes to understanding trauma, exploitation, and survival, experience wins.

🛑 Stop explaining survivors to survivors.
🛑 Stop telling us what we need.

Start listening to the people who actually lived through the abuse.

Listen to survivors. Learn from survivors. Center survivors. 💜

What Makes People More Vulnerable to S*x Trafficking?

• Poverty
Our systems were built to maintain economic inequality. Poverty creates vulnerability, limits options, and increases dependence on others for basic needs. End poverty, and you dramatically reduce the conditions that make exploitation possible.
• R**e culture
S*x trafficking is a form of r**e and s*xual violence. S*x is consensual. R**e is not. We must stop blaming victims and start addressing the attitudes, beliefs, and systems that protect abusers.
• Lack of safe community spaces
Women, girls, trans women, and nonbinary people deserve safe public spaces. Parks, libraries, recreation centers, schools, community programs, public transportation, and online spaces should be safe for everyone. Children deserve to exist without being s*xualized.
• Lack of survivor-informed resources
Policies, programs, and services should be shaped by people with lived experience. Survivors understand the barriers, gaps, and realities of exploitation in ways that cannot be learned solely through research or law enforcement work.
• The "good ol' boys" network
Too often, people in positions of power protect one another instead of holding abusers accountable. Communities become safer when loyalty to friends no longer outweighs accountability for harm.
• Limited access to diverse healing options
Talk therapy helps many people, but it is not the only path to healing. Survivors should have free and easy access to a variety of evidence-based supports, including peer support, art therapy, movement-based therapies, somatic approaches, and other healing options.
• Normalizing harmful behavior
Stop excusing the "weird uncle," the coach who crosses boundaries, the family friend who makes children uncomfortable, or the community member everyone warns people about. Harmful behavior should be confronted—not tolerated.
• Domestic violence and intimate partner abuse
Many traffickers use the same power and control tactics seen in abusive relationships. Preventing and addressing domestic violence helps reduce vulnerability to exploitation.
• Financial barriers
Limited access to banking, credit, transportation, housing, childcare, healthcare, and employment opportunities can trap people in dangerous situations and make leaving exploitation more difficult.
• Isolation
People are harder to exploit when they have strong community connections, supportive relationships, and safe places to turn during a crisis.

No, HUD/public housing is not a resource. A resource doesn't come with a life sentence to poverty.

The most effective way to prevent s*x trafficking is to reduce poverty and increase access to stable resources people want.

The idea of take what you're given and be grateful forgets the trauma survivors are trying to heal from. If we don't feel safe, we are alert 24/7.

Meet people exactly where they are.
Start with: How can I help you?
