Dear Duck Families 🦆

Our Habit of the Month is Leader in Me Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.

Habit 5 teaches children the importance of listening with empathy before sharing their own ideas. We are encouraging students to listen carefully, ask questions, and respect others’ feelings and perspectives.

You can support this habit at home by modeling good listening, encouraging your child to wait their turn to speak, and asking them how they can better understand others.

Habit 1: Be Proactive
• I am in charge of the choices I make.

• I can react to things happening around me, like a soda bottle fizzing over, or I can Be Proactive and choose my mood and attitude.

• I can do the things I need to do without being asked by my teacher or parent.

At Home Social Media Challenges:
• Make a list of ideas you can do when you are bored. Share a photo of your list.

• Try laying out your clothes the night before you go to bed. Take a photo of tomorrow’s outfit and share!

• Share strategies for creating space when you feel frustrated.

• Think about a time when you were mad or frustrated and said something that was unkind. How could you have been proactive instead?

• Think of a frustrating situation you recently experienced. What would a proactive response look like? sound like? What would a reactive response look like? sound like?

• What is within your family’s Circle of Influence?

• What percentage of the time are you proactive or reactive in any given day?

🌟 Building Leaders at CCA🌟

At Cornerstone, we’re committed to helping our students grow into confident, responsible, and effective leaders. As part of this mission, we encourage our families to become familiar with The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which guide much of our leadership and character development work.

These habits help students (and adults!) build strong life skills — from setting goals and taking responsibility to working well with others and striving for continuous improvement.

If you’d like to learn more, please take a moment to review the attached slides for an overview of the 7 Habits of Effective Leaders. Together, we can support our children in becoming leaders at school, at home, and in the community! 💙📘
