Last week Friday, we all gathered together to wish Dr. Germán Sandoya a heartfelt farewell 💚

As an Associate Professor in Horticultural Sciences, Dr. Sandoya has led the development of iceberg, butterhead, romaine, and other leaf lettuce cultivars tailored to Florida’s unique growing conditions. His work has connected researchers, growers, and organizations across the state and beyond, while his mentorship has shaped the next generation of scientists.

Through his dedication to both research and extension, Dr. Sandoya has made a lasting impact on the EREC and the agricultural community. We are deeply grateful for his time, commitment, and many contributions.

He will truly be missed! 🌱

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual in-person Best Management Practices (BMP) Workshop at the conference center, welcoming over 120 registrants!

The training brought together Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) growers, farm personnel, water managers, and pesticide and fertilizer applicators for a day of learning and collaboration. Attendees reviewed the EAA Phosphorus BMP program, explored the latest implementation updates, and earned CEUs.

A big thank you to our speakers from SFWMD, UF, and the sugarcane industry for sharing their expertise, and to everyone who joined us for making this event a success!
