Happy Earth Day! We are using this day to celebrate the awesome environmental service our members and volunteers have done this Spring.

First, our restoration work at the Belle Chasse Middle School greenhouse - tackled by amazing Master Gardener volunteers & BCMS 4-H members.

Second, pictures from 2 native tree plantings we completed with Plaquemines Parish Recreation Department! Students from South Plaquemines High School, Boothville-Venice Elementary School, South Plaquemines Elementary, and Phoenix High School planted a total of 250 trees at community centers on both sides of the river.

Finally, a glimpse into our City Park ecosystem scavenger hunt with 7th & 8th grade members from SPHS, BCMS, and PHS.

In 4-H we teach our children that nature is to be respected, protected, and sustained for us and all living things. Planting a tree, like caring for a child, is an investment in our collective future. How lucky we are to be from such a beautiful place!

This year, we have double the interest in attending 4-H Summer Camp Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center! At this 4th-6th grade sleepaway camp, 4-H members have a safe environment to meet new friends and build their independence. They can swim, canoe, hike, cook, dance, create, and more! Above all, they bond with youth from different schools in Plaquemines and make our program stronger.

We were honored to have living legend, Chef Ruth Varisco from Nunez Community College's Culinary Program teach our Belle Chasse High School's Culinary Club how to make a delicious king cake last Wednesday. The cake was so good that Chef didn't even get a slice! We are happy to connect two great educational programs for our students to know all of the opportunities available to them post-graduation.

We are so proud of our first year Livestock Club Exhibitors for their work raising their animals to show at the Southeast District and State Shows!

Special shoutout to our member from Plaquemines, Sophia Foret, for placing as Louisiana bred Champion, 1st in Breed and Variety in the State with her chickens! The Foret family is representing our Parish and 4-H wonderfully in their care and attention to their animals. Congrats Sophia!
