Bellaire High School Forms Fine Arts Boosters
By Abigail Orren
On September 28, Bellaire High School formed a Fine Arts Booster to help out and raise money for the performing arts, organized by Music Director Aaron Lewis and Drama Director Desiree Kaiser. Mr. Aaron Lewis said, “The goal is to build a collaborative organization in which parents and community members can actively contribute their time, resources, and talent.” They are hoping to support the continued growth of the performing arts programs, provide students with additional performance and educational opportunities, help protect and strengthen local fine arts opportunities, increase community involvement and awareness, and build resources that can help the program.
Money raised by the booster club will go to more band and drama equipment to accommodate the growing numbers of students in the performing arts. The band program would like some better percussion equipment and a new band trailer, and the drama club would like to be able to upgrade to a scenic projector. Before 2021, the band had a Booster program under Tom Golden, which provided valuable support to the program, students and families. Following Golden’s retirement, the Booster went under many different directors and shifts in leadership and priorities. These complications caused the Booster to dwindle, and, eventually, disband all together.
Today, the Band has a small existing fund, which provides meaningful experiences to the students of the program. However, re-establishing the Booster would provide an additional layer of support for the Band, Drama, and Musical programs. The Booster will bring students, parents, and community members closer to each other to support the performing arts.
The Bellaire Band currently has 45 students in grades 6-12, and the Drama Club has 43 in grades 4-12.
