As we wrap up another great week at Horn, I want to recognize several individuals and community partners who continue to make a positive impact on our Cardinals!

First, a big shout-out to Ms. McAdams and Ms. Mendez for a successful start to GT Testing this week! Thank you both for your organization, coordination, and commitment to ensuring our students have a smooth testing experience.

Tuesday was Teacher Specialists Day, and I want to recognize Ms. Abouelnasr, Mr. Decuir, and Ms. McAdams for the work they do to support our teachers and students and strengthen instruction across our campus. Your leadership and dedication to student success are appreciated. Thank you for continuing to challenge, coach, and support our teachers as we work toward our campus goals!

I also want to extend a huge thank-you to the Bellaire Fire Department for visiting Horn and spending time with our 1st grade students! We appreciate our community partners for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate our youngest Cardinals about fire safety and the important work firefighters do to keep our community safe.

A few important reminders as we head into the weekend:
- Friday, October 9: Staff Professional Development Day. There will be NO SCHOOL for students.
- Monday, October 12: Our Fun Run Pep Rally kicks off what I know will be an exciting campaign to support Horn! I look forward to seeing our Cardinals bring their energy and enthusiasm as we launch this year's fundraiser. Thank you in advance to our families and community for supporting our school!

This morning, the Horn Admin Team, Ms. Shetsky, and Ms. Rosenthal brought our Cardinals together for a schoolwide assembly focused on school pride, belonging, and what it means to represent Horn each and every day. We discussed how we can work together to create a school community where everyone feels welcome, safe, valued, and happy to belong, while also reviewing what it looks and sounds like to show pride during assemblies and throughout our school.

We also had the opportunity to recognize some outstanding Cardinals who were nominated by their teachers for SOARing during the 1st Six Weeks! These students have demonstrated the qualities we want to see across Horn and are helping set the standard for Success, Ownership, Accountability, and Respect.

Congratulations to our 1st Six Weeks SOAR honorees! We are proud of you and the example you are setting for your classmates.

Our first graders recently wrapped up PBL Unit 1: Gallery of Heroes. Students identified heroes in their families and community, reflected on the qualities that make them heroic, and brought their thinking to life through colorful portraits and writing. Their finished work transformed our hallway into a true Gallery of Heroes, allowing students to proudly share their learning with classmates and families.

We are proud of our first-grade Cardinals for combining creativity, writing, and real-world connections to celebrate the people who make a difference in their lives!

As we wrap up another week at Horn, I want to give a huge thank-you to Stacy Samet and our incredible PTO for making Fall Teacher Appreciation Week such a success. The generosity and support shown to our teachers throughout the week were greatly appreciated. Our teachers work hard every day for our Cardinals, and I’m thankful to have a PTO that consistently steps up to recognize and support them.

Thank you as well to all of our families who joined us for BINGO Night on Wednesday and Open House on Thursday. It was great to see so many families on campus, spending time together and connecting with our teachers. Your continued partnership and support of your son/daughter and our staff are a big part of what makes Horn successful.

Finally, as we kick off Principal Appreciation Month, I want to personally thank the parents, staff, and students who have already made the first two days of October so uplifting. I truly appreciate the kind words, messages, and support. Serving as the principal of Horn is a responsibility I take seriously, and I’m proud to serve this community each day.

🎉 Congratulations to Ms. Rosenthal, our September Educator of the Month! 🎉

Ms. Rosenthal brings dedication, positivity, and a strong commitment to student success to our Kindergarten classrooms each day. Her passion for creating meaningful learning experiences and supporting our youngest Cardinals truly reflects what it means to SOAR at Horn!

As we close out Week 7, I remain grateful for the learning experiences, partnerships, and community support that make Horn such a special place for our students.

A huge shout-out to our Kindergarten team for bringing learning to life through their PBL unit and walking field trip! Experiences like these allow our students to connect what they are learning in the classroom to the world around them while building curiosity, collaboration, and excitement for learning.

Thank you to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (Trevor Burt and Dana Levy Germain) for visiting Horn and speaking with our 2nd- and 5th-grade students. Our students had the opportunity to learn more about caring for our Rodeo athletes and participate in some Rodeo 101. We are grateful for community partners who invest their time in creating memorable learning opportunities for our Cardinals.

Finally, a special shout-out to Ms. Landestoy and parent Belen Baez Johannsen for a successful start to our Book Fair! Thank you for the time, organization, and energy that have gone into creating an exciting experience for our students and families. There is nothing better than seeing our students excited about books and reading.

Our kindergarteners are closing out their PBL unit “Me, We, and the People We See!” after a busy week of hands on learning! They walked to the mailbox to send letters and learn about the mail system and were so excited to welcome the Bellaire Fire Department to Horn yesterday to check out the firetruck and learn about the important work firefighters do! We love seeing our kindergarteners so engaged and excited to learn about the people who make our community so special!

As we close out Week 6, I am once again reminded of what makes Horn such a special community. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us on Thursday. Your presence was another testament to the strength of our community and the many ways you consistently show up for our school and students.

We also welcomed district leaders to Horn this week, and our campus exceeded expectations. I could not be more impressed by the instruction our teachers delivered, the learning our students demonstrated, and the pride evident throughout our school. A special thank-you to our PTO for providing snow cones as we celebrated the success of our school and the exceptional work of our teachers.

Finally, I want to celebrate Ms. Dang, one of our outstanding second-grade teachers, who will be honored this evening at HISD’s Teacher of the Year Banquet. We are incredibly proud of Ms. Dang and look forward to celebrating alongside her tonight!

As a reminder, students will not have school on Monday due to Staff Professional Development. We look forward to welcoming our Cardinals back on Tuesday for another wonderful week of learning.

As I walked our halls and visited classrooms this week, I continued to see our Cardinals becoming more confident in their routines, more engaged in their learning, and more comfortable taking ownership of their success.

September is an important month for us as we prepare for the district’s first visit. While we do not know the exact day they will arrive, I know our teachers are working hard to ensure that what visitors see reflects what our students experience every day: purposeful learning, strong relationships, high expectations, and teachers committed to helping every Cardinal succeed.

As our teachers continue putting so much time, energy, and heart into preparing for their students each day, I want to once again encourage our families to take a moment this month to reach out to your child’s teacher with a few words of encouragement. A quick email or message of appreciation can go a long way, especially during this observation window.

As we look ahead to next week, we are excited for our Grandfriends Lunch on Thursday, September 17! Please be sure to pre-register ahead of time to help make the check-in process as smooth as possible.
