After more than a month of triple-digit heat here in Central Texas, my garden has been teaching me a few things.
My goal isn’t to control everything. It’s to observe first, use the least invasive intervention necessary, and create a garden that can do more of the work itself.

The Bastrop County Master Gardeners are bringing together an impressive lineup of speakers for their Water Conservation Symposium on September 26.
I’m especially excited to hear from:

🌱 Jane Duke, PhD — soil food webs and the living world beneath our feet
💧 Robert Mace, PhD — Texas water, groundwater and sustainability
🌿 Ben Gillilan — Texas natives and wildlife-supporting landscapes

And I’m honored to be joining them as a speaker as well! I’ll be sharing some practical landscape strategies for using less water while creating a beautiful, resilient Texas garden.
Four hours of continuing education, lots of practical information, and a room full of people who care about the future of Texas water. 💦🌱
