Recently, Belfry High School had a visit from several members of Stone Mason Lodge #890 and Order of the Eastern Star Ladies Auxiliary Chapter #533. They generously gifted 4 laptop computers to some very deserving students. Belfry High Youth Services Center Coordinator, Danita Pauley, collaborated with our school’s guidance counselor, Ms. Walters, and Mason Lodge Treasurer, Mr. Eugene Gibbs, to arrange for this special delivery. These devices will assist to provide opportunities toward their future goals following graduation. We sincerely appreciate the continued investment in our students’ futures, as this is the second year that Stone Mason Lodge has donated technology. Thank you again for supporting our school and community’s youth.

Belfry Freewill Baptist Church Food Pantry will be open for pickup this Friday from 11am-5pm. No proof of income needed.

Please share and spread the word to anyone that may need an extra hand during these hard times!

Important Update from FRYSC please share!
We are sharing information that is important to many families in Kentucky. Due to the current federal government shutdown, the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is actively communicating with all SNAP recipients about the potential impacts.
What SNAP recipients need to know:
October SNAP benefits will still be issued as scheduled.
EBT cards remain active – any existing benefits can still be used.
SNAP eligibility is not affected by the shutdown.
DCBS offices remain open and are continuing to take and process applications.
This includes benefits from both the Simplified Assistance for the Elderly (SAFE) and the Elderly Simplified Application Project (ESAP).

This week, the Pike Co. FRYSCs had the pleasure of hosting Michael DeLeon, creator of “Steered Straight.” We had an incredible 2 days of student participation; Tuesday all 9th graders and Wednesday all 8th graders in the county attended his presentations at Pike Co. Central High School. Also, on Tuesday evening he offered an amazing parent seminar for the 4 in attendance…that’s right, I said 4! Out of a county with 10, 000 students there were only four parents who felt this information was worth their time. Possibly because we are of the mindset, “Not my child…my child would never do that!” However, we are seeing this as an epidemic in our schools, so it is definitely somebody’s child! At the end of Tuesday morning’s session with the county’s freshmen, Mr. DeLeon offered students to voluntarily relinquish their vapes without consequence. He told students they could deposit them on their way out in designated boxes or simply shake his hand while slipping him the device. I witnessed several students who surrendered their vapes and by the end of dismissal he had 2 handfuls. Wednesday was no different; he received even more from the 8th grade students. Please don’t be naïve to think that because your child is an athlete, a good scholar, a musician, or possesses any other qualitative characteristic that it won’t happen to him/her. Devastating results can happen from just one, single “hit.” I can only pray that we don’t experience a student’s overdose from the dangerous chemicals being introduced into these increasingly popular, youth-marketed poisons nor they develop future cardiac or respiratory illnesses as a result of chronic use. The danger is REAL and we can’t keep turning a blind eye to it! The only way to win this battle is PREVENTION! I sincerely hope the 4 parents know how much the FRYSCs appreciated their time in attending this powerful program.

FAFSA IS NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN!
You can now complete your FAFSA.

FAFSA Checklist
(For students starting college Fall 2026 or Spring 2027)

✅ Before FAFSA Opens (Prep Time)
Create or update your FSA ID (student + parent if dependent).
Gather Social Security Numbers for student and parent(s).
Collect 2024 federal tax returns, W-2s, and other income records.
Have bank statements and records of investments (if applicable).
List up to 10 colleges you want FAFSA to send info to.

✅ FAFSA Opens - **FAFSA IS NOW OPEN EARLY!**
Log into FAFSA.gov.
Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (if available) to auto-import tax info.
Carefully review before submitting—mistakes = delays.
Submit your FAFSA as soon as possible!

✅ Week After Submission
Check your email for confirmation from FAFSA.
Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for errors.
Correct any mistakes immediately online.
Watch for emails from colleges about additional documents needed.

✅ Ongoing (October–November)
Keep copies of your FAFSA confirmation & SAR.
Update FAFSA if family financial info changes.
Track scholarship deadlines (many use FAFSA info).
Remind college students: FAFSA must be completed every year.

🎓 Pro Tip
Even if you don’t think you’ll qualify for Pell Grants, always fill out the FAFSA. Colleges and states use your FAFSA to award other aid and scholarships!
