Expedition Education Institute EEI is closed as of 2020. EEI offered traveling, outdoor, semester-long academic programs (2013-2019). Happy Trails.

We created experiential learning communities that inspired informed & compassionate ecological leadership. 2023 update: The EEI bus program is not happening at this time. There are many and multiple offshoots, programs inspired or influenced by the 50+ years of the BUS programs. These will continue to be highlighted here along with the topics of culture shift, climate change, and all the rest. COV

ID updates: EEI is currently not running full semester bus programs. We are in a regenerative planning phase~figuring out what is possible in the current climate and for the best future of the program. We are offering limited virtual programs as well as a summer 2021 Homestead Immersion program that we are co-sponsoring with the Barre Center of Buddhist Studies (BCBS). The summer program is a collaboration among the BCBS, and former Marlboro and BUS faculty and graduates. EEI was partnered with Marlboro College in Vermont, offering accredited college semesters for undergraduates and gap year students for 5 years. The Expedition Education Institute comes from more than 40 years of higher education rooted in direct experience, personal discovery, independent learning, and immersion in the natural world, as practiced by the former Audubon Expedition Institute. Throughout this legacy, the program has offered students and faculty the opportunity to live and learn together in an experiential learning community, traveling in a custom-retrofitted school bus. Participants eat, sleep, and study outdoors within a bioregion as they explore local and global environmental challenges that communities and ecosystems are facing as well as the solutions these communities are creating.

Testify in support of justice for the Wabanaki!

On Monday, February 26 at 10 a.m., the Maine Legislature’s Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on LD 2007 — the bill to restore the Wabanaki Nations’ inherent rights to self-determination. The Wabanaki Alliance is asking for written testimony in support of the bill and has created a toolkit to walk you through the process (https://bit.ly/4bQVHA8). MOFGA is a member of the Wabanaki Alliance and supports this bill, which would help Wabanaki tribes access federal opportunities to expand environmental protections; increase access to health care; respond to natural disasters; foster job creation and economic development; and protect safe drinking water.

The largest library collection in the world is the British Library in London, with a range from 170 to 200 million items! Recognized for its history and architecture, it contains copies of every book produced in the United Kingdom and Ireland, in multiple languages and formats in print and digital. Before its establishment as the British Library, this collection of materials and books was a part of the British Museum until 1973. The Library is recognized as a research library, so it also contains scripts, databases, maps, and more in addition to its extensive book collection. Every year, another 3 million or so reading materials are added into the British Library!
