One rough interaction can change the tone of the next one before we even realize it.

In schools, that might look like leaving a tense conversation with a colleague and becoming less patient with the next student, or carrying frustration from one class period into the room that follows. The second person may have had nothing to do with what happened, but they still feel the residue.

A reset does not require pretending the first interaction was fine. It means noticing what you are still carrying before you hand some of it to someone who never caused it.

Sometimes the most professional thing you can do is take a minute before the next conversation starts.
