🌱🌻🥕 Tips from a Gardener 🌿🥒🍎

WINTER COMPOSTING! Compost slows down when the weather gets cold. Here are some tips for keeping things going so you have finished compost for Spring:

🍓 If possible, move your compost barrel or pile to the sunniest area of your property.

🥔 Insulate with lots of plant material, such as hay, grass clippings, dry leaves and torn newspapers.

🥕 Turn, turn, turn!! Bacteria in the compost create heat when they break down your kitchen scraps and yard waste, and they need aeration to stay alive. So mix up your pile often!

🐝 Interesting add-ins: worms (the ones that require refrigeration to stay alive 😉). Chunks of dormant Scotch Broom wood for heat. Some aged manure for additional bacteria and nitrogen.
