Thank you Herndon Magnet PTSA for the wonderful lunches this week.
Thank you to our outstanding Herndon Magnet School teachers. We appreciate all you do for our kids.
Thank you parents and students for showing love to our HAWK teachers.
I have received a few wonderful gifts. I love our Herndon students.
Have y’all made a decision about kindergarten graduation? Everyone else seems to be having one so I hope we will too🀞🏼
Will school be in session Monday for Herndon have parents asking
Are we going to have a kindergarten graduation this year?
Is anyone else having trouble with their child getting on the right bus ?? Or just me ?
Just want to say thank you to the Herndon staff. Y'all are working so hard and carrying a bigger, more challenging load with all the changes related to the Covid 19 pandemic and are daily working hard to figure things out. I just want y'all to know that I appreciate all y'all are doing and that I pray for y'all daily! I wanted to share one of my favorite scriptures with y'all to remind you that what others say qnd think about us doesnt matter, we are working for Someone much greater!

"Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Colossians 3:23

Have a great week!
The survey that was just sent out does not give you the option for k-5th grade students. Are we supposed to be filling out a survey for elementary students?

I know it might be a little early for a bedtime story, but teachers are tired after our first two days and our No Slumber Party.

One week from today is the first day of the 21-22 school year for teachers and staff. We will host our first ever "no slumber party" Thursday from 2 to midnight. We have seen other schools having fun on social media with these events and want to host one too.

No party is complete without a few games and goody bags to take home. As teachers prepare their rooms and meet with teams, we will play a few games and give away prizes. We need your help with door prizes and goody bags to give away throughout the evening. No prize is too small.

Here are a few ideas:
* gift cards (Amazon, local restaurants & businesses)
* packages of Flair pens
* theme gift baskets or goody bags
* service gift cards (oil change, haircut, massage, pedicure)
* chips & salsa, loaded teas, popcorn & coke, chocolate
* teacher t-shirts
* baked goods, freezer meals

You can drop off prizes at Herndon Monday through Thursday from 8 to 3 or contact Jennifer DePriest or Ashley Pellegrin to arrange pick up.

Thanks in advance for helping make our first "no slumber party" a huge success!

Water games to end our 2 week SEA program today. Not a lot of pics because the adults were playing the games too! Most of the kids loved the watermelon and spitting the seeds in the yard and several that said they didn't like it tried it and loved it. It's been a FIN-tastic two weeks.

STEAM challenge day 6 - one person was the eyes, another person was the ears, and third person was the hands. Could they recreate the model? Students learned how important details are and how communication involves more than just seeing or talking or listening.

Landry Pharr attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. last week. He had an awesome experince meeting Anthony Robles, an NCAA wrestler and author of the book β€œFrom Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion.” Landry also participated in group simulations, toured Mount Vernon and other monuments, and won a $300 scholarship for an essay he wrote! We are so proud of his accomplishments and for representing Herndon so well. Way to go Landry!

Our rising first graders have been writing a research paper on the SEA animal of their choice this week. They've done the research themselves and organized it on index cards and then turned it into a paper. Two students finished this week. This is spectacular work! Way to go Maizy and Daniella. What an awesome writing project by Mrs. Wright and her students.

Day 5 STEAM Team Challenge grades 3-7. Students had to build a tower out of paper towel and toilet paper rolls and paper plates that would hold a basketball for at least 3 seconds. A great task for students who didn't think it was possible without tape. Look at these awesome towers.

Day 5 STEAM Team Challenge grades K-2. Students were tasked with building a tower out of Legos that would support a volleyball. Lesson learned: we should have given them 10 minites of free play before we started because some of them didn't want to build a tower they wanted to build a rocket ship and some of them had never played with Legos and had to learn how to put them together. But their thinking was incredible.

SEA Day 4 recess fun!

Photos from Herndon Magnet School's post 07/23/2021

Day 4 STEAM Team Challenge had pairs of students building a tower out of index cards. It was cool watching them take what they learned from the balloon tower challenge and apply it today. They knew they needed a strong foundation. Watching them work together and try to figure out the best way to get height, encourage one another to keep going even when their tower fell and they had to start over, and trying different folding patterns and techniques to build a tall and strong tower was fun.
