Election Day is only a few weeks away. Make sure you make your voice heard this year and support candidates who will support Harford County educators and students.
🍎 BOE District A 🍎
Steve Puopolo wants to bring Harford County Schools into the 21st century. He has a focus on fully implementing the Blueprint for Maryland's Future (Kirwan Commission recommendations) for higher pay, more staff, and community schools for Harford County students. He believes in raising support staff pay and better benefits and workplace safety for custodial staff. He also wants to expand skilled trades opportunities through public magnet programs and pursue a second vocational technical school in Harford County. He would be an enormous asset for educators and students on the HCPS BOE.
🍎 BOE District B 🍎
Wade Sewell has been working alongside Harford educators for the past several years to organize for more funding. A lifelong Fallston resident, his commitment to our schools runs deep. Wade helped found Gator University, an after school STEM program, served as a Parent Advisor to HCPS, and PTA Treasuer. His top priorities on the Board of Education are making HCPS the best environment for educators, both in pay, and in their relationship with the Board of Education. He wants to focus on increasing parent engagement with HCPS in healthy and productive way. Finally, he wants to make sure that our schools and our classrooms help learning outcomes--with smaller class sizes and modern school buildings.
🍎 BOE District C 🍎
Dr. Carol Mueller joined the Board of Education in February 2020, bringing over 30 years of educational experience with her. Not only has Carol taught at the middle school, high school, and community college level, she has also worked as an instructional aide and is a former PTA president. Improving education and making a difference are her focus, which has led Dr. Mueller to work with schools in Kenya, helping them to secure the resources they need. Carol has lived in Bel Air for the past 23 years and is an active member of the community.
🍎 BOE District D 🍎
Ariane Grubb-Kelley was appointed to fill a vacancy on the HCPS Board of Education for District D in 2021. Her children attend Harford County schools, and she attended North Harford Elementary, Middle and High Schools, and her father is Coach John Grubb, who was very involved in Harford County athletics. She holds a Masters from National University in Teaching & Learning, and is the DIrector of Academic Support managing tutoring and student support programs at Johns Hopkins Unviersity, and has years of experiencing developing K-12 curriculum and orientation programs for teachers and students. She is extremely qualified for to hold a seat on the Board of Education and has our full support.
🍎 BOE District E 🍎
Carol Bruce is a retired civil servant, running for the Board of Education in District E. She has a BS and an MBA from Morgan State, and is the past chair of the Harford County Board of Elections. If elected, her focus will be on ensuring that HCPS is a welcoming school system for all children, regardless of their race, ethnicity, the amount of money their family has, or their zip code, and on supporting Harford County educators on the job. She is particularly concerned about the shortage of educators to fill vacant positions and believes that raising salaries is an important solution and wants to create programs in HCPS for students who want to become teachers. She has been a consistent voice for increased funding for our schools and providing the staffing and resources necessary to support children facing mental health challenges after the pandemic. She was named a "Harford Living Treasure" in 2020 by the County Council, and is working to refurbish the former Havre De Grace Colored School as a cultural center and museum to preserve the history of Harford County's African American residents.
🍎 BOE District F🍎
Sharon Jacobs retired from the Army after a 20 year career. She has a BS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Southern College and a Masters in Systems Acquisition Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. She is a resident graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. She was honored as Harford County's Woman of the Present in 2020, the Harford Community College Foundation Athena Leadership Award in 2019, and the Boys & Girls Club of Harford Woman & Youth Award. She believes parents have a very important role in education and student behavior, and that kids deserve a rich and diverse curriculum. She wants to ensure that Harford County teachers are as diverse as our student population.
