On Saturday, 8 April, LASH had its second semiannual Eyeglasses Sorting event of this FY at the Maryland School for the Blind. 32 Lions from 14 clubs participated.
They sorted 24,000 pairs of eyeglasses, 84 sets of hearing aids, and 70 cellphones. Eyeglasses will be sent to a company for reconditioning and reissue overseas or to a recycling company.
The hearing aids will be taken to the Towson University Hearing
and Balance Center for refurbishment to issue to clients who could otherwise not afford them.
The cellphones will be given to a veterans organization to recycle for money to purchase phone cards and the like for military overseas.

The Lions Association for Sight & Hearing of Maryland held its semiannual collection of eyeglasses, hearing aids and cellphones on April 11. District 22-A Lions Clubs brought donations from their servicing area to the drop off point in Dundalk. 17,500 eyeglasses were collected along with 67 sets of hearing aids and 200 cellphones.
The eyeglasses will be shipped to a company that will refurbish and ship them to those in need in South America and Africa.
The hearing aids will go to the Towson University Speech, Language and Hearing Center to be refurbished under contract and then issued to clients who could otherwise not afford them.
The cellphones will go to a veterans organization that will send them to be recycled for cash. The cash is then used to purchase phone cards to issue to troops overseas to use to call home.
This is another example of what members of Lions Clubs International do every day to serve their communities.
