REST IN PEACE:
It is with tremendous sadness that we share the news with you that Mrs. Louise Géczy was called home to be with our heavenly Father and her late husband, Louis Géczy.

Our hearts and deepest prayers are with the Géczy family, including her daughters, Michelle Géczy, Jessica Géczy-Shertzer and Allison Fordyce; sons by marriage, Michael Shertzer and Brad Fordyce; grandchildren, Ellery '25 and Adeline Shertzer, and Tate, Grayce and Nash Fordyce; and sister, Jeanette Wiegand.

For nearly 25 years, Mrs. Géczy has been an integral part of John Carroll, starting as an English and Public Speaking teacher and finishing her career as the School’s Academics Project Manager. Her impact was felt from her earliest days when she was challenged by then-Principal Paul Barker to develop a Senior Project curriculum that she went on to coordinate for many years. She was also instrumental in creating and leading Senior Unity Day, which is now a highly anticipated and beloved tradition at John Carroll.

However, Mrs. Géczy's most significant and enduring contribution lies in her unwavering commitment to developing the School's Human Rights curriculum and programming. Beginning with a Holocaust unit in Senior English classes, her efforts led to the creation of today's widely respected, cross-curricular program, which includes Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Senior Class trip to the U.S. Holocaust Museum, and, in conjunction with the Baltimore Jewish Council, Lessons of the Shoah, an annual event drawing hundreds of participants from schools across the state.

Her contributions to Human Rights programming extend beyond Holocaust curriculum. With three of her colleagues, she developed "Exploration of Human Rights, Genocide and the Pursuit of Justice," an impactful upper-level elective made possible through the inaugural Andrew P. Klein Peace and Justice Grant. She also organized an annual Genocide Vigil to commemorate the lives of victims of genocide, mass atrocities and identity-based violence throughout history.

While her selfless dedication earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 International Peace & Justice Award and the Ponczak-Greenblatt Families' Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education in both 2009 and 2023, Mrs. Géczy always remained humble, focusing on the importance of education and promoting human rights.

We will continue to keep everyone informed regarding plans for services as they are released by Mrs. Géczy's family. Please join in a prayer of comfort for the Géczy family and all those who loved Mrs. Géczy.
In this moment of sorrow, the Lord is in our midst and consoles us with his word: Blessed are the sorrowful; they shall be comforted.

Almighty and eternal God, hear our prayers for your servant Louise, who had faith in you. Grant her a place of refreshment, light and peace. Accept Louise into your safe-keeping and on the great day of judgment raise her up with all the saints to inherit your eternal kingdom. Comfort Louise's family in their loss and sorrow. Be our refuge and our strength, O Lord, and lift us from the depths of grief into the peace and light of your presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

REST IN PEACE: 💙🙏
Sister Roseann Treston, SSJ passed on to Eternal Life last week at age 89.
She taught Music and English at John Carroll in the 1980s, and directed the School Chorus, but was most famous for directing the annual Musical Production.

Hundreds of students participated over “the Sister Roseann years,” singing and dancing their way across the stage to Broadway tunes and scripts.

Sister involved the children of faculty and little siblings of students in the children’s roles each year. She also started the tradition of inviting alumni who were involved in the show during their high school years to join with the student actors during special celebrations.

A talented soprano, Sister Roseann led the singing for school Masses and other occasions.

Who remembers that she wrote a “fight song” that was sung at all JC football games?

Sister Roseann spent 72 years in religious life with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill, and was a great role model for all her students over the decades that she spent in the classroom.

May the angels and saints lead her into Paradise.
Amen.
