Ever wish you had the perfect way to say “womp womp” in a text? Soon, thanks to a group of HCPS students, you will!

Harford County Public Schools is thrilled to share that the trombone emoji, proposed by students from the Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School, has been approved for global use in the Unicode library!

This new emoji fills a gap in musical instrument representation and brings humor to keyboards everywhere. It’s the result of the hard work of former students Brendan Althoff, Brandon Brown, Dillon Capalongo, Gabriel Cardell, William Davis, Evan Demos, Nathaniel Dimick, Kristen Dorsey, Ian Leach, David Oguh, Christopher Pappas, and Mark Rosser, with guidance from Science and Mathematics Academy Program Specialist, Sarah Ashley.

The students (now graduates) first submitted their emoji proposal five years ago, and just recently heard the good news!

Look out for the trombone emoji, coming soon to a keyboard near you—ready to hit the right note in your texts!

Our 7th and 8th graders attended the final marching band rehearsal of the season! They got to play side by side during our fight song and watched PMHS halftime show in the stadium under the lights.
