Just 8 months ago at Del Rio, Texas these students were trying to make their first Regional Qualifier and now they just returned from Nationals! What an amazing first year!
What an educational and exciting year! These students learned new things about competition BBQ and live fire cooking, made lots of new friends, and tried so many different flavor combinations their pallets couldn’t take it all!
The students jumped into live fire cooking and proved they can compete with the very best in the country. From the first cook off the students have poured their hearts into every practice and every competition.
At the National High School BBQ Championship (with over 100 of the best teams in the country) they placed 14th in Pork Butt!!!
51st overall!!!
Please congratulate them!!! They are one of the BEST BBQ teams in our Nation!
BBQ competition is hard to explain. Every table of judges has different tastes, different preferences, and different opinions. One day they love your food and the next day they don’t. What you turn in one day isn’t liked and you turn in the exact same the next day and it’s champion.
These students learned to win with humility, lose with grace, solve problems under pressure, and trust each other. They have heart, passion, grit, and determination.
Our program exceeded every expectation this first year. These students took on the every challenge proved they belong among the best.
Thank you to our parents, supporters, sponsors, and community for believing in these students.
***Special Shout Out:***
Alton Paris and Chupacabra!!!
Pit masters Aaron Ray, Domingo Salinas, and Angelica Hernandez!!! Uncle John Rodriguez!!! Reba Beard at South Texas BBQ Emporium!!! The Fritz Family!!! The Salazar Family!!!
