A Course in Miracles Study Group - Central NJ

A Course in Miracles Study Group - Central NJ Thank you for liking out page. Our group meets over zoom, Tuesday evenings at 7:15 pm. Douglas Economy is our facilitator.

Please email Douglas Economy (facilitator) for more information at [email protected] Our meetings offer an experiential and meditative approach to the teaching of A Course in Miracles (ACIM). We offer space for personal sharing as a way to reinforce the teaching as it applies to our daily lives. His approach to the teaching comes from his loving guidance into the Truth of who we are, as giv

en in the Course, and is an extraordinary experience. It can be life-changing and can take little time to experience. Learn how to embrace your magnitude, to step out of the ego world and into your divinity. It can heal your entire life, the one you've always known is there but couldn't quite access. Unlearn the untruths that the world teaches, and learn to be present to what is, to the Love that you are. Learn to trust your real Self again in a safe, sacred, conversational setting and really get it - understand what is meant by a Miracle. You too can access your essence and live it from now on.

To prepare for our next meeting, we will read Chapter 31, Section VI:
“Recognizing the Spirit”.
The true meaning of the word “miracle” is a shift in perception/awareness from illusions to truth. The truth about our identity is that we are spirit; our so-called “humanness” is illusory.
The perception of divine reality happens through what Jesus calls vision. It is what we can see through our “inner eye”, or through the mind, and not our physical eye.
Recognizing ourselves as spirit through vision is the gateway through which we can receive from God the full experience of our divine reality.

To prepare for our next meeting, we will read Chapter 29, section VIII: “The Anti-Christ”. According to A Course in Miracles, the Anti-Christ is the world of time, space and form that seems to exist outside of our true Selves; the ego’s dream as an attempt to replace the reality of Divine Oneness that is God’s creation. The goal of the “Course” (atonement/salvation/enlightenment) is to transcend and liberate ourselves from the ego and its illusory world.

Since the beginning of the pandemic we have been meeting on Tuesdays at 7:30 on Zoom. If you would like to join us, please send an email to [email protected] and we will send you a link to join the Zoom meeting.

The reading for the next meeting this Tuesday is Lesson 312: “I see all things as I would have them be”.
This message points to one of the central messages of A Course in Miracles: “Projection makes perception. The world you see is what you gave it, nothing more than that…It is the witness to your state of mind, the outside picture of an inward condition. As a man thinketh, so does he perceive. Therefore seek not to change the world but choose to change your mind about the world. Perception is a result and not a cause.”(Chapter 21, Intro. S.1).
So again, as stated often before, the world as we experience it is a production in the ego mind projected outward to create the illusion of a material world. (This happens on both an seemingly individual as well as collective level).
The Course teaches us to perform a miracle: the shift from the ego’s perception to the perception offered to us by the Holy Spirit. This perception is what Jesus calls vision and the content of vision is what Jesus calls the real world. In this world all is One which is Love, because God creates everything as an extension of himself. When we learn to exercise this vision consistently, God takes the last step of our spiritual journey called atonement: He imparts to us what Jesus calls knowledge. This is the end of all perception, because perception is a dualistic process that involves the perceiver and the perceived. Knowledge is pure Beingness, the awareness of the One Self which constitutes heaven.
This shift from perception to knowledge has nothing to do with death, which is an ego illusion.

As we know, A Course in Miracles is a strictly non-dualistic spiritual teaching. That means, that the reality that God created is absolute oneness; that all beings, including God, are actually One. There is no separation. All existence is exactly the same with one exception: God created us (as identical, divine extensions of himself) and not the other way around. Therefore our true nature is divine spirit.
However, if that is so, what about the phenomenon of sin? Are we not sinners, as the Christian religion teaches? The more extreme version of this belief is the concept of “original sin”.
In response, ACIM differentiates between sin and a mistake. By definition, sin is a factual statement. A fact is a fact, constituting an unchangeable reality. Because of our divine reality, sin is therefore impossible.
What does happen, however, is that we can be mistaken about our reality and create for ourselves the delusional experience of being a fallible human and create the delusional experience of acting accordingly. According to ACIM, this is nothing but a mistake which can be corrected by re-identifiing ourselves with our divine nature.
As a preparation for this discussion, the reading for the next meeting is Chapter 19, Section II: “Sin versus Error”.

Transcending the ego and it’s illusory world of duality (the world of time, space and form) and accessing our divine spirit reality (a process that Jesus calls atonement) has two main components*: forgiveness and vision. Forgiveness is the letting go of, or overlooking the world of illusions. Vision is the exercise of spiritual sight; our innate ability to behold Truth with our “inner” eye.
This week we will take a closer look at vision. As a preparation we will read Chapter 20, Section VIII: “The Vision of Sinlessness”.
*Two additional components of the atonement process are belief and faith.
