Today, we’re celebrating 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh!

For a century, Pooh Bear and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood have reminded us of some pretty important things: friendship matters, kindness goes a long way, curiosity is a wonderful thing, and the simplest moments often mean the most.
At Midcities Montessori, we believe childhood should be filled with wonder, meaningful connections, questions worth asking, and the freedom to explore the world around us. Because sometimes, the biggest lessons come from the smallest bears.

Today, in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Midcities Montessori takes a moment to honor the Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures, knowledge, and traditions have shaped—and continue to shape—our world.

At Midcities Montessori, we believe education extends beyond textbooks. It means understanding perspectives different from our own, recognizing the contributions of those who came before us, and fostering respect for the people, cultures, and communities around us.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to listen, learn, acknowledge the histories that are too often overlooked, and recognize that Indigenous communities are not simply part of our past. They are living, thriving communities with rich traditions and important voices in our present and future.

Although our campus is closed today, learning never stops.

May we continue to raise curious minds, compassionate hearts, and thoughtful global citizens who understand that every culture has a story worth learning and every community deserves to be seen and respected.

🎂 100 years. A remarkable woman. A legacy that keeps teaching us.

Today, Midcities Montessori celebrates the 100th birthday of Dr. Opal Lee—Fort Worth’s own “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” and a queen in our hearts!

Her determination helped make Juneteenth a national holiday, and her example gives our children something powerful to learn from: stand up for what is right, care about your neighbors, and keep going when change takes time.

At Midcities Montessori, we want our students to understand that history is shaped by people who choose to make a difference. Dr. Lee reminds us that one person’s courage can inspire generations.

Happy 100th birthday, Dr. Lee! Thank you for showing all of us what a life of purpose, perseverance, and love for community can accomplish. 🎉

🐇🎩 Happy Mad Hatter Day! 🎩🐇
Today we’re celebrating the wonderfully curious, creative, imaginative, and delightfully odd thinkers who make the world a much more interesting place.
At Midcities Montessori, we don’t believe every child needs to fit neatly into the same box. In fact, we’d much rather see them think outside of it.

We celebrate the questions that don’t have easy answers.
The ideas that take a completely unexpected turn.
The child who sees something everyone else missed.
The dreamers, the creators, the tea drinkers… and yes, even the wonderfully odd.

Because sometimes the best learning happens when you’re willing to turn the world upside down and look at it from a different perspective.

Stay curious. Think differently. Be wonderfully you.

Today is a day for celebrating the people who teach, the people who care, and the people who keep growing.

Today is World Teachers’ Day—a day to recognize educators around the world who do far more than teach a lesson. They encourage curiosity, challenge thinking, notice the little things, and help young people discover what they’re capable of.

It’s also National Do Something Nice Day.
And honestly? We think the world could use a little more of that.

A kind word.
An unexpected smile.
Helping someone who needs it.
Making room for someone else.
Choosing compassion when it would be easier not to.

And then there’s National Get Funky Day—a reminder that learning doesn’t always have to look the same, sound the same, or happen inside the same four walls. Sometimes growth means getting a little uncomfortable, trying something different, being creative, and having some fun along the way.

Finally, National GOE Day — Growth, Overcome, Empower—reminds us that everyone has a story, everyone faces challenges, and growth doesn’t always happen in a straight line.

That feels pretty fitting for what we believe at Midcities Montessori.

We aren’t just preparing students to pass a test.

We’re helping them learn how to think, how to care, how to persevere, how to question, how to create, and how to become the person they are capable of becoming.

Because education is about so much more than academics.

It’s about people.
It’s about possibility.
It’s about growth.

And maybe today, we can all do something nice, get a little funky, step outside our comfort zone, and keep growing. ❤️

Friday question: What if school felt made for your child?

A place where they are known as an individual. Where hands-on learning turns curiosity into confidence. Where small classrooms make room for meaningful guidance, growing independence, and a true sense of belonging.

Today is National Love People Day… and we think the world could use a little extra practice!

At Midcities Montessori, learning to be a good human is part of the lesson, too. Helping a friend. Welcoming someone new. Listening to a different perspective. Choosing kindness—even when someone took the pencil you were JUST about to use.

These little moments matter. They help children learn that we don’t have to be alike to care about each other.

Today, give your kiddos a simple challenge: Do one thing that makes someone feel included, appreciated, or loved. A kind word, an invitation to play, or a helping hand is a wonderful start.

We’re raising readers, thinkers, and problem-solvers… and people who will make this world a little kinder.

🎶 It’s 9/25… so naturally, we’re talking about 9 to 5. 🎶

But today, we’re not talking about Dolly Parton because of the hair, the rhinestones, or even that song we’ll now have stuck in our heads all day.

We’re talking about Dolly Parton, the literacy champion. 📚❤️

In 1995, Dolly launched Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program created to put books directly into the hands of young children. What started in her home county in Tennessee has grown into a worldwide effort that has gifted hundreds of millions of books to children.

And THAT deserves a little Midcities Montessori love.

Because before children can become scientists, artists, engineers, teachers, entrepreneurs—or even country music legends—they need people who nurture their curiosity and give them opportunities to READ.

📖 Books open doors.
📖 Books build vocabulary and imagination.
📖 Books take children places they’ve never been.
📖 And sometimes, one little book can spark an interest that lasts a lifetime.

We may not be in school today, but learning certainly doesn’t take the day off.

So on 9/25, in honor of the queen of “9 to 5,” we’re giving Dolly Parton a big ol’ Midcities Montessori THANK YOU for understanding something educators know very well:

If you want to change the world, put a book in the hands of a child.

Now go read something with a kiddo today.

WEEKEND HOMEWORK: LOOK UP!
No worksheets. No pencils. No studying required.
This weekend, we’re giving families a different kind of assignment courtesy of Midcities Montessori. (and Mother Nature)
Go outside together and LOOK UP.
The Harvest Moon is lighting up the September sky, and it’s the perfect excuse to put down the screens for a few minutes, step outside, and let your kiddos simply observe.
What color does the moon look?
Does it seem bigger near the horizon?
Can you see any of the darker areas on its surface?
Why do you think it’s called the Harvest Moon?
And the best question of all… “I wonder why…?”

Because some of the very best learning doesn’t happen sitting at a desk.
It happens when a child looks at something enormous, beautiful and mysterious and says…
“Whoa. How does THAT work?”
That’s where learning begins.
So this weekend, grab the kids, head outside, and spend a few minutes under the September sky on the 26th.
