HEB ISD Suzuki Strings

HEB ISD Suzuki Strings HEB ISD is a Schools of Choice Program where students in Kinder-6th grade learn to play violin, viola, cello, and double bass using the Suzuki Method.

Our eleven world-class Suzuki teachers truly believe that "Every Child Can!" In 2000, the HEB Board of Trustees asked Dr. Gene Buinger, Superintendent of Schools to investigate the possibility of implementing a strings program in the district. Due to budget constraints, the possibility of having a string program at eighteen elementary schools would have been beyond the district’s financial capabil

ities. Based on his observations and experience with the Suzuki programs of other school districts, the Superintendent recommended to the Board of Trustees that the district start a Suzuki program at selected elementary schools in HEB ISD. Parents would be allowed to transfer their children to those schools if they wanted their children to participate in the program. Introducing the Suzuki method in the elementary schools affords students an opportunity to experience success with their instruments before entering a more traditional public school orchestra program in junior high and high school. In 2001, 5 elementary schools were selected to have Suzuki Strings. Today 10 HEB elementary schools offer Suzuki Strings, there are currently more than 400 students in the program.

Two full days of end of year meetings for our eleven Suzuki Strings teachers. We reviewed events from this year and are ready to hit the ground running with amazing events planned for next year! We are also celebrating the retirement of Mary Margaret Haraden after 25 years of teaching for HEB VPA! She is leaving an amazing legacy, and she will be missed!

So proud of our Elementary Honor Orchestra students! Last week, under the direction of Lindsay M. Jones Serdar, they performed at the Dallas Classic Music Festival, and were able to play onstage at the Meyerson Concert Hall - the same place the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs! Our students played brilliantly and were rewarded with all Division 1 ratings!

We are so grateful for the support from all of our Suzuki teachers, parents, and grandparents for helping prepare these students, and to HEB VPA and the HEB Suzuki Strings Booster Club for all their work and support all year long.

Thanks to Aurora and Willow Morgan, HEB ISD Suzuki Strings at South Euless Elementary - for their outstanding shirt design. It was so much fun seeing everyone decked out in it at Spring Festival!

What a weekend at our annual Suzuki Spring Festival! 🎻✨

Over 500 violin, viola, cello, and bass students came together to learn, grow, and make music alongside incredible guest clinicians from across the country. Our elementary orchestras and ensembles delivered truly stellar performances—such artistry, focus, and heart on display at every level.

We left the weekend energized, inspired, and so proud of this amazing community. Endless thanks to HEB VPA, HEB Suzuki Strings Booster Club, L.D. Bell High School Orchestra, and all of the dedicated parent and student volunteers who made the festival run so smoothly. It takes a village, and ours is pretty extraordinary. 💙

Bravo to the HEB ISD Elementary Honor Orchestra on a truly brilliant performance Monday night! 🎻✨

It was especially meaningful to see these young musicians join forces for a performance with the Elementary Honor Choir which is such a unique and inspiring collaboration for 4th–6th graders. Experiences like this don’t happen everywhere, and it's just part of what makes our Suzuki Strings program so special.

Did you know it wasn't just HEB Suzuki Teachers at the Suzuki Association of the Americas Convention? Two of our 6th Grade bassists, Asher D (Viridian), and Charles S (Hurst Hills), auditioned for and were chosen to participate in the SAA Bass Ensemble and the Suzuki Bass Masterclasses, led by Dr. Patricia Weitzel from Penn State. Our Suzuki team was busy this SAA Conference! Dr Kate Jones (Hurst Hills) facilitated an Every Child Can course, while Oscar Soler (Wilshire) presented a session about Dr Suzuki's "One Point Lesson", and Stacy Garner (South Euless Elementary) taught about teaching and parenting Suzuki teens and preteens. We are so proud of our Suzuki team - they are incredible!
