Members of the Bedford High School Art Club and High School Art staff nearly completed a public art mural project on Friday afternoon in Bedford (at the corner of Railroad Ave and South Rd).
This project was a year in the making and originated from the Bedford Arts Council, led by Alyssa Sandoval, and made possible by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. In last years town survey, an overwhelming majority of residents expressed the desire to see more public art on display in Bedford, and this is one step toward having more community artwork in public spaces.
Thank you to all of our passers by who supported us and expressed their approval for our work on Friday, and to the Bedford Police Department and Bedford DPW who gave us the "thumbs up" driving by yesterday.

Great article by Marty Renzhofer about the upcoming Exhibit 15 Art Show art the Bedford Town Hall, opening night March 11th at 5:30-7:00

By Martin Renzhofer Lily Barsam-Thompson has been painting for about a year. The sophomore at Bedford High prefers working in acrylics. This type of paint allows her the chance to build layers, to create different textures. “I don’t want to blend everything in perfectly,” Barsam-Thompson said....

EXHIBIT 15:
This exhibit was born out of the desire to have a smaller, regional showcase of student work that was free for students, while also bringing neighboring communities together for a celebration of artistic excellence. We wanted to limit the works to only fifteen per district (hence the name EXHIBIT 15). This requires art departments to be very selective with what they are exhibiting and staff need to communicate, collaborate and compromise when making decisions as a department. We also wanted to elevate the exhibit by recognizing exceptional work, so we enlisted the help from area professional artists and educators to serve as jurors who will determine work that is best in each category(drawing, painting, ceramics/sculpture, digital art and photography) as well as the best in the show, overall. This is our first year doing this kind of show, and we hope that it becomes an annual tradition.

New 5th grade mural at the Lane School!

Over two hundred fifth grade students (who are now 7th graders at JGMS) helped create this mural in Mrs. Yerova's Art classes during the spring of 2017. It is now hanging on an outside wall of the Lane gym, near the vegetable garden, and it symbolizes the journey students take while at Lane. It may not look it, but this painting is eight feet tall and sixteen feet wide! Nice work, students!
