BACK-TO-SCHOOL COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

As our families prepare for the start of the 2026–27 school year, several community partners are offering opportunities to support students and families—and BCSD is happy to help spread the word!

As previously shared, families can enjoy free Mitchell’s Ice Cream, free children’s books, community and more!

12:00–4:00 p.m. | Free Kids Cuts: 12:00–3:00 p.m.

Please note: These events are organized and operated by community partners, not Bedford City School District. BCSD is sharing this information as part of our ongoing commitment to connecting families with resources and opportunities throughout our communities.

And we know this isn't everything happening across Bearcat Nation and our surrounding communities! Community partners with upcoming events or resources for BCSD families are encouraged to reach out to the District so we can help spread the word.

Having a strong partnership between school and family is so important to your child's success! Let's make sure to get them started on the right foot together! 🏫 👍🏻 While you are at OPEN HOUSE on 8/24th be sure to meet with the Admin in the GYM for an important meeting @ 5pm.

☀️ Our Littlest Bearcats Are Getting Ready for a BIG New School Year! 🐾📚

The countdown to 2026–2027 BCSD Preschool is officially underway! Families enrolled in our Gold-Rated Preschool Program have several important dates coming up as we prepare to welcome our preschoolers for another year of learning, discovery, and growth.

🗓Preschool Virtual Orientation: August 19th | 6–7 PM
🏫 Open House: August 24th | 5–7 PM
🎒 First Day of Preschool: August 27th

Enrolled families will receive mandatory forms and assessments at Open House/Orientation that must be completed by the start of school, along with calendar and weekly schedule information.

A few helpful reminders: school supplies, including backpacks, are provided, and meals/snacks are provided as outlined in the flyer. Transportation is not provided unless specified through a student's IEP.

🔗 Be sure to review the attached graphic and visit the BCSD Preschool webpage for additional information and resources as we prepare for the new year!

Central Families, we're getting SO close to the first day of school, and we can't wait to welcome back our amazing students.☺️ You may remember that last year we had PBIS incentives, events, and treats to recognize our students for their exemplary R.O.A.R. behavior. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and we're proud to share that our school has been recognized with a Red Ribbon and several top badges for the 2025-2026 school year. 🏆 🥳👏🏻We're always reaching for the stars and helping our students do the same. 🌠 Congratulations, Central Family!

School Supply Lists Are Here! ✏️

The 2026–2027 school supply lists can now be found online for all Bedford City School District schools PK-8.

Each school's website now features a "school supply list" link, and we've added a homepage pop-up so you can find the information in just a click or two.

Not sure where to start? Simply visit the BCSD District website, select "Schools," and choose your child's school to access its website and supply list.

🛍️ Great timing! Ohio's Sales Tax Holiday runs Friday, August 7th through Sunday, August 9th, making this an excellent opportunity to check items off your back-to-school shopping list while saving on eligible purchases.

As we continue counting down to the first day of school, keep an eye on our social media pages and school websites for additional back-to-school information, important reminders, and exciting updates!

This August 20th, the Friends of the Bedford Branch Library invite BCSD families to their annual "Back to School Ice Cream Social"!

Mark your calendars and come and join the community for an evening of free Mitchell's Ice Cream sundaes (while supplies last), free children's books, and information about the Bedford Branch Library's youth programs and services available throughout the school year.

One of the four wonderful communities that make up the Bedford City School District family is celebrating a major milestone!

BCSD is proud to help share that the Village of Oakwood is celebrating its 75th Anniversary with a three-day community festival full of fun, entertainment, and activities for all ages—and everyone is welcome!

The future of Bedford City School District officially has new names.

Following feedback from our families, staff, students, alumni, and community members through a district-wide naming survey that received more than 300 responses, the Bedford City School District Board of Education has officially approved the names of our two newest schools.

🏫 Bedford Middle School
Serving students in grades 6–8

🏫 Perkins Primary School
Serving students in grades K–2

Both schools are currently under construction and are expected to be completed in July 2027, welcoming students for the 2027–2028 school year.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this process and shared thoughtful name suggestions. While these two names were ultimately selected, the Board recognizes the many meaningful submissions received. Several of those names may be considered in the future to honor spaces within our new schools—including the middle school, primary school, new Bedford High School—or even future facilities such as the planned grades 3–5 building.

This announcement marks another exciting milestone as we continue building the future of Bedford City School District—and we're just getting started. With the new middle school and Perkins Primary School opening next year and the new Bedford High School to follow in 2028 (New BHS Groundbreaking Ceremony scheduled 8.22.26!).

The next chapter of Bearcat excellence is well underway.
