Advice to My High School Self…

We asked our NLCC staff what advice they would give their high school selves...and their answers did NOT disappoint! 😂❤️

From “Don’t worry so much” and “Be confident enough to try new things” to “Save more. Spend less. Retire early!” and the ever-important “Use moisturizer and sunscreen every day.” ☀️😂

There’s a whole lot of life experience on this bulletin board! We hope our students stop, read a few, laugh a little, and maybe even take some of the advice. 💙

🚑 Learning to respond like a pro!

Our EMR students are putting essential EMS skills into action! Students practiced safely approaching a scene, using medical gloves and BSI (Body Substance Isolation) precautions, completing patient assessments, documenting vital signs and assessment findings, and communicating patient updates to the hospital by radio.

From scene safety to patient care to clear communication, they’re learning that every step matters when responding to an emergency. 🩺📻🚑

💻🎮 Computer Science in Action!

Our Computer Science students have been busy putting their skills to work! The CS Essentials class recently demonstrated their first programs, where students were challenged to create a game that can be played on a mobile device.

It was great to see their creativity, problem-solving, and coding skills come together as they shared their finished games! 👏

Communication is key! 🥜🍇

Our Culinary and Criminal Justice students teamed up for a fun PB&J activity to see just how important clear, concise, and detailed communication really is.

Students had to give step-by-step instructions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich....and quickly discovered that saying “put the peanut butter on the bread” might not be quite specific enough. 😂

Whether you're working in a kitchen or in criminal justice, being able to give and follow clear directions matters. Sometimes the simplest activities teach the biggest lessons!

On October 3rd, the NLCC will take over Otis Park for a “CHALLENGING” golf scramble that’s equal parts competition, camaraderie, and pure fun. Grab your squad, sharpen your pencils, and compete for bragging rights while raising critical funds for our students heading to state and national competitions.

To kick off the year, members of our staff—and a few of our students—chose one word that represents how they hope to approach this school year. Whether it's Believe, Courage, Kindness, Persevere, or Grow, each word is a reminder that small choices every day can lead to big accomplishments.

As we begin a new year at the NORTH LAWRENCE CAREER CENTER, we wish all of our students a year filled with learning, growth, and opportunities.
