We were talking about coding yesterday and pseudocode came up — it’s a great opportunity to learn how to outline with code before writing code. As the cliche says, a failure to plan is a plan to fail.

This October, we’re talking about the things in STEM that might seem a little scary at first—but don’t have to be.

First up: coding.

Learning to code can feel intimidating, especially for students who have never seen themselves as “coders.” But getting started doesn’t have to mean jumping straight into complex programs or staring at lines of code on a screen.

Hands-on tools like drones give students a chance to code, create, collaborate, and problem-solve—and see their code come to life right in front of them.

And since October is Workforce Development Month, it’s a great reminder that those first coding experiences can be about more than learning a new skill. They can introduce students to career pathways and possibilities they may not have known existed.

Getting started with coding isn’t so scary. Sometimes, students just need a reason to take that first flight. 👻🚁

After a productive practice, I saw an article regarding the value of what we do on our teams. We may need to do more education locally about the value of our program, but we have an international reach.

Even before entering the workforce, students in the RECF programs are designing and building robots, flying drones, testing ideas under pressure, learning from failure, and competing in robotics and drone competitions across the country and around the world. Every week, I watch students do the kind
