Important Information About the School Calendar

There has been a recent change in West Virginia law regarding school calendars, shifting from a 180-day student calendar to 900 instructional hours.

We want to share what this means for Raleigh County Schools:
-Next school year (2026–27):
We will continue operating on a 180-day calendar, just like this year.
-The calendar that has already been approved and released is the one we will follow for 2026–27.
-The new 900-hour requirement will take effect the following school year.

At this time, this is simply informational so families are aware of upcoming changes in state law. We will continue to communicate any updates as they become available.

Before the end of the school year, Raleigh County Schools will release our Summer Adventures Booklets for both elementary and secondary students!

These booklets are designed to keep students engaged, active, and connected all summer long.

Inside the booklets you’ll find:
• A full calendar of summer events happening across Raleigh County
• Elementary edition: reading logs and learning activities
• Information from local community partners

Also included:
• Free Summer Movie Schedule
• Raleigh County Parks summer events
• Local camp opportunities

At the back of the booklet, families will also find two snapshots of the upcoming school year to help with planning ahead.

🎒✨ Move Up Day is Coming! ✨🎒

On May 27, all students across Raleigh County Schools will participate in Move Up Day—an exciting step toward the next school year!

This special day is designed to help students feel more comfortable and confident by giving them a preview of what’s ahead.

What to expect:
• Students will visit the next grade level at their current school
• 5th and 8th grade students will travel to the new school they will attend next year
• Tour the building
• Meet teachers and staff
• Learn about classes, activities, and opportunities
