What inspires CTE educator Joshua Cameron's teaching? "Watching students realize they are capable of more than they thought."

Joshua teaches animal science at Byington Solway CTE Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, where many of his students walk in curious but with little confidence, especially those who didn't grow up on farms or around livestock.

With his $1,000 Inspiration Grant, Joshua is expanding hands-on, inquiry-based learning in his animal science courses. Instead of simply learning about animal systems, students will investigate them, measuring, analyzing, and drawing conclusions with authentic tools that mirror veterinary and animal health careers.

"Bridging the gap between abstract scientific concepts and tangible agricultural applications is essential. When students can see how biology, chemistry, and data analysis directly impact animal health and food systems, engagement increases dramatically."

Several of his former students are now pursuing degrees in veterinary medicine and agricultural education. One now serves on his program's advisory council.

Photos from Vernier Science Education's post 06/02/2026

Last month, we celebrated 45 years of Vernier Science Education at our annual all hands meeting.

Dave and Christine Vernier took us through the last 45 years of the company, from the early days of Apple II-based software to the sensors, apps, and labs shaping science classrooms today. Having the team all in one room to hear the story was something special.

Thank you to our founders, to the leadership of our CEO Jill Hedrick, and to every educator, student, and team member who has been part of this journey.

Here's to the next 45!

"Hands-on, data-driven learning helps students better understand and apply complex concepts."

Meet Carmela Schlitzer, one of our 2025 Inspiration Grant winners!

Carmela teaches at High Tech High School in Secaucus, New Jersey, where she's inspired by helping students see science as something they actively do, not just read about.

With her $1,000 Inspiration Grant, Carmela is incorporating Vernier probeware across multiple courses: Meteorology, Public Policy, AP Environmental Science, and Urban Ecology. Students will collect and analyze real data related to weather, air and water quality, soil health, and environmental decision-making.

"A major challenge is moving students beyond memorization to real scientific thinking," Carmela explains.

Many of Carmela's students compete in FFA and Agriscience events, where they design their own research projects. The skills they're building in her classroom translate directly to those competitions and beyond.

LabQuest 3 05/26/2026

Did you know LabQuest® 3 works with any Vernier sensor, including all our wireless Go Direct® products?

As more schools limit personal devices in the classroom, LabQuest 3 offers a dedicated solution for collecting and analyzing data without relying on phones or laptops. No browsers, no notifications, just focused, hands-on science.

Students connect a sensor and start investigating right away. The built-in graphing and analysis tools mean they stay engaged in the investigation (observing, measuring, and making sense of real-world phenomena) without the distraction of off-task screens.

Learn more about LabQuest 3:

LabQuest 3 Collect, analyze, and interact with data efficiently. With its touch screen abilities, students can navigate the platform with ease, and because of its wireless capabilities, students can collect data anywhere.
