Mission: This page was created to facilitate the sharing of band-related information like fundraisers and other upcoming events and to create a community of past graduates to preserve and celebrate the band's history.
We have been wondering about the Beaverton Celebration Parade (fka the Good Neighbor Parade) in the time of COVID-19. It will be a virtual event this year! Videos of "parade participants" will be posted on the city's website and social media channels. What do you think of that?
And the BHSME fireworks stand is open for business! Grab your mask and get your 4th of July socially-distant celebration ready to go!

Good Morning BHS Band Alumni!
You can imaging how our current BHS band students are feeling right now. They have been blindsided. All of their Spring events have been canceled.
The band boosters and I are hoping one of YOU would be interested in working with us. We'd like to brainstorm some ways to support the kids and the program.
Please email me if you have questions or are interested: [email protected]
Anyone up for barbecuing a few drumsticks?
Hoping all you alumni are doing OK and staying home.

It has been a challenging week since the fire at BHS.
The band room and imstruments won't be accessible for 2 additional wks. But, once Belfor is done cleaning all should be "normal." The band kids and I are in a regular classroom. Music theory lessons and activites are on the menu for now. The students and staff are positive. We are grateful for your kind wishes.
Many of you have no doubt heard by now of the fire at BHS this past weekend. News reports indicate there has been damage to the Performing Arts wing. We are standing by hoping to learn of the status of the band room, instrument closet, etc.

Message from Beaverton Friends of Music re BSD budget and music education:
We invite local parents, students, teachers and community members to advocate for music at the BSD Student Success Act / Budget listening session: Monday October 21st • Aloha High School 6:30-8pm
Why will attending this meeting make a difference?
This is the final meeting for SSA community feedback and it also kicks off the budget listening sessions for the 2020-21 school year.
Budget listening sessions are key policy-setting moments in our district because they happen prior to the internal budget process. Scheduling & staffing are highly dependent on budgeting, and, once a budget is proposed to the School Board in the spring, it rarely changes. That’s why this meeting (and the next two budget listening sessions in November and January) are so important.
We heard this week that two music parents have been appointed to the middle school boundary committee showing good faith on the part of the district to include our voice in these crucial discussions. Now we just need to keep the pressure on.
How can you help?
1. Come to the meeting Monday night, WEAR RED, and speak up for music using the talking points below.
2. Take the BSD needs assessment survey: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/get-involved/student-success-act/ssa-needs-assessment-input
The format for the SSA meetings has been table group conversations and we expect the same for this meeting. Here are some talking points to help us communicate a unified message:
Our community values daily band and choir taught by full time directors at every BSD middle school.
We want to see a common middle school schedule that allows every student the opportunity to take daily PE and two electives, at least one of which is a daily elective. You can say “PE + 2 Electives Everyday” for short.
We'll see you Monday night!

Message from Beaverton Friends of Music:
Due to multiple scheduling conflicts the Oct 7th BFoM Community Education meeting is rescheduled to:
Sunday **October 13th** at 7pm [not October 7th]
New location: **Fire station 65**
3425 SW 103rd Ave in Beaverton
Beaverton Friends of Music invites teachers, parents and community members to attend a Community Education Night. Come learn about our advocacy strategies and our specific proposals to bring quality music education opportunities to all students at neighborhood middle schools. Want a preview of the meeting? View BFoM’s latest 10-min video here.
Because we are advocating for PE + 2 Electives Every Day at the middle school level, our proposals have the potential to improve educational opportunities for students interested in a range of electives besides music. After these meetings, attendees will be much better prepared to advocate effectively with administrators and other community members.
**Please note the BFoM Community Education Nights are not the same thing as the BSD Student Success Act nights. We highly recommend advocates prioritize the BFoM training before participating the SSA Community Conversation on October 21st.**
ATTENTION: Music Education Advocates!
BFoM Community Education 9/29 and 10/7

• Monday, October 7th 7-8pm Mountain View MS Choir Room 17500 SW Farmington Rd, Beaverton, OR 97007
Two meetings are offered for scheduling convenience, please attend the one that fits your schedule best and bring a friend.
The purpose of these meetings is to orient attendees to our advocacy strategies and educate them about our specific proposals to bring quality music education opportunities to all students at neighborhood middle schools.
