Alapadma "Alapadma" is an Indian classical dance school offering classes in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam in the greater Seattle area since April 2013.

Alapadma dance school, offers classes in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music (voice) & Mohiniyattam in the greater Seattle area (currently group classes at Redmond, Renton and 1:1 classes/arangEtram prep at Bellevue). The school was started by dancer Anuradha Samrat. Anu began her dance training at the age of 6 in Madras, now called Chennai, in India. Alongside Bharatanatyam classes from Kalasagara, (ru

n by sisters Mrs.Malathy Thotadri and Mrs.Usha Raghavan, themselves disciples of Shri Adyar Lakshmanan), Anu also attended music classes with Mrs.Mayuravalli Srinivasan. Later, she continued her music lessons with Mrs.Savitri Satyamoorthy. While doing her Masters at Edwardsville, Illinois, Anu came across Mohiniyattam dancer Ms.Smitha Rajan and started learning from her. Being a trained dancer and a musician, Anu brings with her the ability to compose music for the pieces she choreographs. Classes are offered during the school year at Redmond and Woodinville, WA. There are many who have learnt a bit of Bharatanatyam in their childhood. A gap of decades happens…..and then the dance journey resumes. This time the body isn’t the same, but that doesn’t deter some! (Our adult student is navigating some back issues but has a burning desire to dance!).

With our student showcase done last Saturday, we conclude this academic year! For the first time, we had Carnatic music students also on stage (we Carnatic music lessons were offered for the first time last year!).
We will have a summer intensive (dance) for a few students, from June 22 until July 10th. Time to focus and work on improving technique and work in an unhurried way on abhinaya pieces.
We will resume group classes in Redmond and Renton in mid September.
1:1 and small group classes in Bellevue (home studio) are on-going. If you’re an adult looking to get back to classical dance, whether you’re a complete beginner or have learnt a bit and have had a fairly long break, please do message us - let’s discus your lesson plan to get back into the fascinating world of Indian classical dance!
