INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC THEORY & COMPOSITION

With a focus on chord function and analysis as well as strong melodic writing, we will learn to write several short compositions throughout this class. We will look at examples ranging from Bach and Beethoven to current film, game and pop music. Each week we will have a short composition assignment, and we will also have occasional chord analysis worksheets. If you want to learn how to write your own music while gaining a strong understanding of music theory, this course is for you!
