On this Labor Day, let us remember our history and inheritance.

BEA received our charter from OEA 65 years ago and has since been at the forefront of advocacy for Beaverton students and school. In 1979, over 90% of BEA members voted to strike over Plan Time, Association Rights, Class Load, and a Living Wage. Even after being ridiculed in the local paper, BEA was prepared to walk the line for our working conditions which are our student learning conditions. After filing our intent to strike, the district returned to the table and a contract was settled!

This is our story. This is who we are. We are BEA.

Happy Labor Day BEA! Solidarity Forever!

🚨 Your voice is needed RIGHT NOW.

We have a massive opportunity to pass SB1507, but it won’t happen without a push from the people. This bill is a game-changer for Oregon public schools as it disconnects our state tax structure from the federal tax structure, and your representative needs to know their constituents are watching.

We share an office with Washington County Uniserv who Sarah worked alongside for years. Her impact on our union won’t be forgotten. We send our thoughts to John, Washington County uniserv, and all of OEA during this time.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our longtime colleague and friend, Sarah Moskoff Berkey, passed away February 8th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Sarah worked for OEA from April 1995 until her retirement in July 2022. During her many years with us, she touched countless lives and became a part of the fabric of this organization. She was admired not only for her dedication and professionalism, but for the kindness, grace, and humility she showed to us that knew her.

Sarah faced her illness with remarkable strength and quiet courage. She did so with love, dignity, and an unwavering spirit that inspired everyone who knew her.

Sarah’s husband, John Berkey, also a valued colleague, retired shortly after Sarah so he could be by her side during her journey. Our hearts are with John and their family during this incredibly difficult time.

Sarah will be remembered as a beautiful soul — someone who made others feel seen, supported, and cared for. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with and knowing her.

We will be reaching out to John to see where Sarah wished donations to be sent in her honor. Please save the date Friday, May 15th, for the Celebration of Life at Skyline Memorial Gardens. Time TBD

Please keep Sarah’s family and loved ones in your thoughts.
