Check out this cool kid! Austin is an alumni of Coy's band program. This summer, he toured the country with the Cavalier's Drum Corp, which took home 8th place at the DCI World Championships! Austin is back in Beavercreek now, ready for his senior year with the Beavercreek High School Marching Band.

Great job, Austin!

Join us in welcoming Mr. Marlyn Strickland to the Coy Band Program! He will be leading the 6th grade brass as well as team-teaching 7th grade with Mrs. Garrett.

Mr. Strickland is a familiar face in our music program - He actually taught at Coy for several years starting in 2014. Most recently, he assisted our band by teaching weekly brass sectionals and working with the marching band and HS drumline.

Welcome Mr. Strickland!

It's time to restock! With the first day of school just around the corner, now would be a good time to order new supplies for band so we can hit the ground running! All supplies can be purchased by contacting the music store (Willis Music will deliver them to the school) or using an online vendor like Amazon.

On a related note, students will NOT need their instrument on the first day of school.

Clarinets & Saxes - we recommend the D'Addario Classic Reserve reeds, size 3 (purple box for clarinet, green for alto sax)

Brass - make sure you have valve oil/slide oil AND tuning slide grease!

Percussion - If you have lost/broken your sticks or mallets, you can buy them at school the first week.

- Spots available for flute, clarinet, mellophone (could be a trumpet or a French horn player), and low brass (could be trombone, baritone, or tuba).

- Students must be grade eligible based on their 4th quarter grades - This usually means no more than 2 Ds or Fs.

Great job to our young musicians on their fantastic performances at last night's concert!

An unexpected storm knocked out the power in the middle of the 8th grade's second piece, causing a curtain to malfunction and come down on the stage. Unfortunately, there was no way to raise the curtain again so we had to stop the performance early. At least he kids all have a fun story to remember!

The Coy Bands had a great year full of fun and musical growth - we wish everyone a safe and exciting summer break and look forward to seeing everyone back at school in August!

A MASSIVE congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade bands on truly amazing performances tonight at OMEA adjudicated event!!

Both groups have worked incredibly hard this year and all their efforts paid off tonight - every single judge gave them the highest rating of Superior! This is a very big accomplishment that not many ensembles achieve!

An additional congrats to the 6th and 8th grade choirs that also earned Superior ratings and the 7th grade choir, which earned an Excellent rating.

We are so proud of all our young musicians!

The Coy Band and Choirs made their annual trek to Kings Island yesterday! It was beautiful weather and the kids had an awesome time riding roller coasters, hanging with friends, and eating waaaayyyyyyy too much sugar. What a great way to celebrate a year of hard work and musical growth!

Last night the 8th grade band participated in Mini Camp with the high school marching band. This is a great event that lets our 8th graders learn a little more about marching band and how to stay involved with music at the high school.

The kids learned a little about how to march, played 2 songs with the high schoolers, and got to see the reveal of this year's marching band show, "Not Quite Rite," which will feature The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, music by Van Halen, and the Cupid Shuffle.

Great job 8th grade band!

Big news! For the second year in a row, Beavercreek has been named one of the National Association for Music Education's BEST COMMUNITIES FOR MUSIC EDUCATION!

This national distinction was awarded to about 1000 school districts across the United States and honors communities that demonstrate outstanding commitment to music education. The designation highlights thriving music programs, exceptional student participation, and strong community, administrative, and school board support.

We are incredibly proud to receive this honor and want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped keep music alive in Beavercreek - From the kids who work hard to prepare for performances to the families who get them an instrument to the community members who donate to our annual fundraisers, we couldn't do it without you!
