Geneva College MAHE Program

The MAHE program is a Master's program in higher education offered through Geneva College.

The program provides solid theoretical and professional foundations for work in higher education. The concentration areas (student affairs, college teaching, educational leadership, and campus ministry) enable students to develop an area of expertise according to their interests. Our program is flexible as well, offering several ways to complete the degree work. The two predominant models for comp

leting coursework are the cohort program and the institute model. Students enrolled in the cohort model work on campus at Geneva in assistantships, completing contextualized learning hours in various positions on campus alongside coursework. For people already working in other contexts, we also offer an institutes model, where students may take courses via the summer institute (2 weeks in une) and/or winter institute (1 week in January) and complete the coursework throughout the year--a distance learning program with a short residential component. Many of our students hold full-time positions at institutions all around the country, making our institutes a great environment to learn from colleagues around the country as well as from the course content. As we finish up our first week of classes, the MAHE program is highlighting one of our alumni, Eric White II. Eric graduated from the program in 2025 and now works as an English teacher and football coach in Houston, Texas. He also serves as a youth minister and is working toward a doctoral degree. Eric thanks the MAHE program for helping to shape his philosophies into practice from a Christian perspective, especially remembering an important conversation he had with Program Director, Dr. Henrique Alvim, on God's power in cultivation.

Before our faculty and students get back to work with the beginning of the fall semester, we wanted to highlight our Capstone presentations from last May. We are so thankful for our students and their hard work and deep commitment to the field of higher education, as well as their faculty advisers, family, and friends who supported them along the way. Congratulations to our amazing MAHE graduates! Throughout your time at Geneva College, you have worked hard and persevered through many long days for this moment. We are also grateful for our faculty and staff who supported these students along the way and for the families and friends who were always there for our students. Last week, the MAHE program hosted our graduating students for dinner to celebrate the completion of their Capstones and the MAHE program! We were joined by several of our faculty and staff for a wonderful evening and meal. Thanks to Z Pub & Diner for hosting us and congratulations to our students!

Today’s Capstone spotlight features Julia Hart! Julia’s project was guided by this question: “How does NCAA Division III athletic participation shape the holistic development of the student-athlete?” Throughout her Capstone, Julia learned that experiential learning happens in various places on campus. The knowledge and skills developed through experiences are transferable to life after graduation, shaping how students think, act, lead, and adapt in both their personal and professional lives. Next up on our Capstone spotlight series is Ana Aristor! Ana’s project was guided by this question: “How does the historical pedagogy of the Highlander Folk School, interpreted through relational epistemology and Christian anthropology, contribute to a constructive vision of formation in contemporary Christian higher education?” Reflecting on the development of her Capstone, Ana was grateful for the opportunity to be a student of her project. As she wrote, she found herself further drawn to pursue practices that cultivate her own formation and to engage those same practices alongside her students. Her Capstone also helped her to integrate ideas from across her studies in the MAHE program. Our next Capstone feature is Dorcas Ge! Dorcas’ project was guided by this question: “How do Curricular Practical Training (CPT) opportunities and institutional support strategies influence international students’ career readiness and employability?” Through her work, Dorcas has learned more about the unique challenges international students face in succeeding at college, especially in navigating their career expectations. She is passionate about the educational process for international students, as she believes it shapes how students think, grow, and perceive the world. Our next Capstone spotlight features Isaac Cooke! Isaac’s project was guided by this question: “How do we understand belonging within a Christian context of higher education?” As he conducted research, Isaac found that institutional language about community development often lacks a strong definition of friendship that would be useable in belonging interventions. Therefore, he explored evidence-based interventions at colleges and universities, and also searched for a Christian definition of friendship in the works of authors such as Augustine of Hippo, C.S. Lewis, and Dr. Wesley Hill. To hear Isaac’s conclusions, attend the MAHE Capstone presentations on Tuesday, May 5, at 6pm in the Benedum Room.
