Cherub's Corner Tutoring Center (CCTC) is an educational service and its main focus is on all sub-groups and targeted populations of students in grades K-12. CCTC provides services in the content areas of Mathematics, Writing, Reading/Elglish Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies, and Science through individualized instruction, small group instruction, and technology based instruction to ensure thei
r success. CCTC provides supplemental instructional materials in all content areas through After-school, Weekends/Saturday Tutorial, and Summer School Programs for ALL eligible and/or qualified students. A diagnostic assessment is first administered to determine the strenghts and weaknesses of each student. Using the results of this assessment, an individualized learning plan is then created that pinpoints the skills and strategies necessary for improvement. The student is then placed in appropritate small groups that will focus on their needs. The tutor can focus on more than one academic skill or more than one subject in a single session. Formative assessments are given 3 wks to determine progress or the need for individual instruction for intensive study. Our highly skilled tutors are capable of helping our student improve one grade level in 40 hours of instruction if sessions are regularly attended. This is proven by a post-assessment upon completion. CCTC has develop an ongoing relationship between teachers, parents and students to stay abreast of any changes. All content areas are taught by highly qualified tutors who provide parents with information on the progress of the
students being served in a language that parents can understand. Parent training is also be provided to ensure student
success. All CCTC instructional and paraprofessional staff are HIGHLY QUALIFIED in their respective content areas. All CCTC Tutors
have at least a Associate's Degree with 60 credits or more. The majority of the instructional faculties have earned Associate's
Degree, and are highly qualified in these areas: Reading and Mathematics. All tutors complete an intensive training to equip them with numerous strategies to engage students in their learning style and build selfesteem. Before being placed in direct contact with students backgrounds are checked and necessary information is verified to ensure eligibility for employment. All personnel are "kid- friendly" and able to communicate with school staff, parents and of course students. The instructional strategies and skills utilized by the instructional staff of Cherub's CornerTutoring Center are defined and guided by the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and ELPS (English Language Proficiency Standards). Assessment data from teacher observation, standardized tests, and individual reading inventories are analyzed to determine strengths and weaknesses of students participating in the program. From this data, students are placed in small groups for direct instruction according to their specific needs which are identified and listed in the TAKS/TEKS objectives. Cherub's Corner Tutoring Center is prepared to provide academic enrichment activities to students in high poverty schools to help them to meet state and local standards in core content areas, such as , reading, math and science. Cherub's Corner Tutoring Center uses the three-tier approach, levels of intervention are organized in tiers to enable tutors to respond to student needs. Each tier provides more intensive and supportive intervention. The goal of the Three-Tier Approach is to produce success for all students. CCTC primarily uses Study Island that is scientifically-based lessons that emphasize the critical elements of Math, science, and English Language Arts (reading and writing). This approach has proven to be effective in urban school districts serving low socio-economic families. Since learning takes place in a social environment, cooperativelearningstrategies are used to compliment these lessons.
